Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center Welcomes New Rabbi
The 94-year “young” Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center is welcoming Rabbi Noam Raucher as their new Senior Rabbi. Rabbi Raucher had been serving as the Associate Rabbi of Temple Israel in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Rabbi Raucher said he loves being a rabbi and the meaningful work of the rabbinate.
His self-written professional credo states: “I will live each and every day guided by a covenant of love with my Teacher. Each day I give thanks for the opportunity to serve the Jewish people, my fellow citizens of the world, and God. In service to them I will operate as a light of the Jewish tradition perpetuating: love, justice, hope, and wisdom. I will value people over programs, and relationships over numbers. I will always strive to sanctify life and treat all of creation as holy.”
Rabbi Raucher is originally from Hamden, CT and grew up in a home of Jewish educators and leaders. He graduated from Hofstra University in 2002 with honors in Judaic Studies and Psychology,

1:00 PM – Fred Barnes, 80 years old of Altadena was arrested in the 2500 block of Fair Oaks Avenue for petty theft.
9:00 PM – A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 2200 block of Midlothian Drive. Stolen: vehicle manual, registration and insurance card.
10:25 PM – A vehicle vandalism occurred in the 2100 block of N. Marengo Avenue. Suspect(s) shattered the vehicle window.
Monday, June 27th
8:30 PM – John Weaver, 52 years old of Altadena was arrested in the 600 block of Church Canyon Place for battery of a fireman.
Tuesday, June 28th
6:45 AM – A residential fire occurred in the 2100 block of Grand Oaks Avenue. Structure damage only.
2:43 PM – A vehicle was reported stolen in the area of Sonoma Drive and Mar Vista Avenue.

Eaton Canyon Nature Center’s Monthly Twilight Program Kicks Off with Special Guests The Animal Guys
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the first 2016 Twilight Program is scheduled for Saturday, July 30th starting at 7:00 p.m. This family-friendly special program, developed by the Eaton Canyon Nature Center Associates, will include a visit from The Animal Guys, the wildlife outreach team from the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California.
The Animal Guys teach children about the fascinating world of wildlife biology with the help of rescued and captive bred wild animals as visual aids including a porcupine, grey and red foxes, snakes and more. They aim to inspire youngsters to develop a deep interest in natural sciences through exciting interactive experiences.
The Twilight Program takes place monthly, during the summer months, at the Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park which is located at 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena in the Cynthia Null Outdoor Classroom. The suggested donation is $3.00 per person, children under 2 free, family discounts are available upon request.

Tragic Attack Leaves Little Boy Dead
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left one man injured and a little boy dead Tuesday night.
Detectives learned that at approximately 10:30pm, on July 5, 2016, a drive-by shooting occurred in the 300 block of Figueroa Drive, Altadena. An unknown suspect drove up to the residence and fired rounds toward a residence, striking both victims whom were on the porch.
The adult victim, male-Black, 27-years-old, and the boy, male-Hispanic, 4-years-old, were transported to a local hospital.
The boy was later pronounced dead.
The adult victim was a family friend visiting the residents and is not related to the child.
The suspect, described only as an adult male-Black, was driving a dark-colored or black car. It is unknown if there are any additional suspects or if this incident was gang related.
The investigation is active and on-going.
There is no further information at this time.

12:53 AM – Prisiliano Oliva, 37 years old of Altadena was arrested in the 2100 block of N. Raymond Avenue for spousal battery.
Tuesday, June 21st
12:35 PM – An indecent exposure incident occurred in the 100 block of W. Altadena Drive. Suspect described as a male Black with braided hair wearing a dark blue or black t–shirt. Suspect was driving a black Volkswagen Bug.
5:00 PM – A vehicle burglary occurred in the 700 block of Royce Street. Suspect(s) entered the vehicle by punching the door lock. Stolen: Sony car stereo and various construction tools.
5:00 PM – A residential burglary occurred in the 1700 block of Harding Avenue. Suspects(s) entered the residence via unknown means. Stolen: A/C units and Samsung 42 inch television.

Major Damage Throughout Altadena Home Early Tuesday as Fire Erupts in Back Bedroom
A single story home in the 2100 block of Grand Oaks Avenue suffered “major damage throughout” after an early Tuesday morning fire erupted in a back bedroom. There were no injuries to the occupants.
A Los Angles County Fire Department spokesperson said the blaze was called in 6:44 a.m.
Neighbors saw smoke around 6:45 a.m. and started banging on the door to alert the occupants, a witness said.
Responding crews were able to knock down the blaze by 7:09 a.m., but by that time the fire had caused extensive damage.
Pasadena Fire Department sent an engine to “assist,” said spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
Authorities were working to discover the cause of the blaze. Investigators were on scene interviewing the home’s occupants even as crews remained at the scene were overhauling.

Special Viewing of the Movie “Creed” at the Altadena Library

Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) is the son of the famous boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died in a boxing match in Rocky IV (1985). Adonis wasn’t born until after his father’s death and wants to follow his father’s footsteps in boxing. He seeks a mentor who is the former heavyweight boxing champion and former friend of Apollo Creed, the retired Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Rocky eventually agrees to mentor Adonis. With Rocky’s help they hope to get a title job to face even deadlier opponents than his father. But whether he is a true fighter remains to be seen.
