Altadena Public Library Presents “Crones” A Staged Reading by Writer-Director Mimi Seton Starring Anna Mathias and Lily Knight
Friday, November 13th at 8:00 p.m., the Altadena Library District presents The Sisters in Peril’s next staged reading, “Crones.” This two-hander written and directed by Mimi Seton, centers on two women, best friends from adolescence, who re-unite 40 years later to lend a hand to each other during a time of crisis for both. One is a pragmatist, the other a mystic, but being psychologically savvy and humorous New Yorkers, their dialogue is as funny as it is moving. The audience is given an opportunity to “overhear” what two older women talk about behind closed doors when their guards are down and are free to be completely intimate. The Sisters in Peril reading series is dedicated to giving older women writers and composers a voice in the community.
The staged reading was first read at The Culture Project in NYC in August of 2015, starring Mimi Lieber as Zoe Greenberg and June Gable as Poppy Mac Claren. This is the first time it will be heard in Los Angeles.

The Altadena Library Celebrates Halloween and Día de Los Muertos
Story, Photography and Video by MONICA TERADA
Children and parents came out to the Altadena Library on Tuesday night for a Halloween and Día de Los Muertos celebration, featuring spooky orange cupcakes and fun activities.
Andreas made a pirate out of his sugar-skull. He said he didn’t have anyone’s help to make it and he “used food coloring and beads.” His sister, Adeline, made a girl looking at a butterfly with her sugar-skull.
A few tables over, Zephyr, dressed in a Captain America costume, was decorating his sugar-skull with several layers of different colors of food coloring. His sister Alizé, who was dressed as a princess, was standing beside him observing. Zephyr added that he was going to put his multi-colored sugar-skull on an altar.
Other activities at the Halloween celebration included Mexican paper flowers and trick or treat bags. Jessica quickly learned how to put together her paper flower and proceeded to instruct others at her table.
