New Altadena Historical Society Exhibit At Webster’s Community Pharmacy Features Mountain View Mausoleum

The glorious architecture and artwork of the Mountain View Mausoleum are celebrated in a new photographic exhibit by the Altadena Historical Society in the gallery at Webster’s Community Pharmacy.

The one-dozen color photos of the landmark are part of a continuing cooperative program by the Historical Society and Webster’s to present Altadena’s colorful history in a popular, accessible location.

The enlarged photos show the exterior and interior of the mausoleum, which is located at 2300 N. Marengo Ave., three blocks north of Woodbury Road, and is itself open to the public seven days a week.

“This is Altadena’s own Sistine Chapel,” said Jane Brackman, Ph.D., Historical Society president and curator of the exhibit at Webster’s.

“Most Altadenans, even those who have lived here all their lives, have driven past the mausoleum on Marengo but have never gone inside. We hope this exhibit will encourage people to visit this Altadena landmark, which is truly stunningly beautiful.”

Finally, the Evidence Emerges: It Looks Likely that ALDI Really is Coming to Altadena

Finally, the Evidence Emerges: It Looks Likely that ALDI Really is Coming to Altadena

At tonight’s Land Use Committee meeting of the Altadena Town Council, the attached documents were available for distribution showing detailed plans filed with the County which clearly show an ALDI market at the corner of Calaveras Street at Lake Avenue.

These plans are the first solid, convincing documentary evidence Altadena Now has seen.

See the plans for yourself! Click here Aldi_Elevations

As recently as August 25, public relations officials for ALDI refused to reveal if the market was planning to come to Altadena.

“As you can imagine, there are many factors involved when ALDI opens a new location. Aspects such as population density, proximity to competition, cost of the property and, with this being California, even traffic patterns are evaluated,” wrote Eniko Bolivar, Vice President of ALDI-hired PR firm Weber Shandwick.

Looks like Los Angeles County may have blown their smokescreen away.

Problems at Huntington Hospital May Extend Far Beyond Reported Superbug Outbreak in Scope Patients

Problems at Huntington Hospital May Extend Far Beyond Reported Superbug Outbreak in Scope Patients

Federal health inspectors effectively stopped over 30 unstarted surgeries from proceeding at Huntington Memorial Hospital last Tuesday after they reportedly discovered numerous violations of proper sterilization procedures during a surprise audit, current and former Operating Room nurses allege.

Steve Ralph, President and CEO of Huntington Memorial, released a statement last week confirming that federal auditors from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) were in the hospital and that “elective surgeries were temporarily halted Monday evening and resumed Tuesday.”

Ralph gave no specific explanation for stopping the surgeries other than to say that “as with any audit, business as usual can be disrupted.”

CMS officials would not discuss Huntington Hospital, citing department policies.

Huntington Hospital’s Manager of Public Relations and Media Derek Clark did not respond to two emails and three phone calls seeking comment on the nurses’ version of last week’s events.

The shutdown of all 17 operating rooms at once is said to be unprecedented at Huntington Hospital.
