Muir High School’s campus-based urban farm will have an open house Thursday at PUSD headquarters

Sunflowers are just one of the crops grown in the urban farm behind Muir High School in Pasadena.

Burglary victims often feel vulnerable and violated as their personal space has been invaded. Residential burglaries statistically occur during the day while families are at work or school.

Drink plenty of water, don’t go outside if you don’t have to, keep your pets out of the car, and stay cool.  Don’t forget that the Altadena Senior Center, 560 E. Mariposa St, is a cooling center, open from 8 AM-5 PM.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department has released video of a July 13 air rescue at Eaton Canyon.

According to a release from the sheirffs, the rescue occurred at Eaton Falls.  Two injured hikers were rescued, one a man from Pasadena who had fallen 80 feet, landing on the canyon floor.

The release said “He sustained moderate trauma injuries and was treated by Emergency Services Detail paramedics and hoisted into the aircraft.

 It was the annual shift in power:  old members of the town council left and new members came in Tuesday night.  Outgoing councilmembers Allan Wasserman, Gino Sund, Tecumseh Shackelford, and Ruth Edwards were honored for their service, as were outgoing executive committee members Sandra Thomas (chair), Okorie Ezieme (vice chair), corresponding secretary Jamie Bissner, recording secretary Greg Middleton, and treasurer Doug Colliflower.

Altadena Sheriff Capt. John S. Benedict held a “coffee with the Captain” at Perry’s Joint Thursday morning.  Benedict and some of his senior staff listened to resident’s complaints and suggesttions and offered information on such programs as Neighborhood Watch and CERT.  Above, Michele Zack and Benedict in conversation with an unidentified resident; and below, Benedict meets with (from left) Walter Martin, John Smith, and William Greer.

Ever since the time around Independence Day, we’ve heard (and gotten reports of) big “booms” being heard around Altadena. Some of this you can assign to illegal fireworks going off, but even as we go deep into July, it has’t ended.

Many people across the community have been asking about the “loud booms” that seem to be coming from the Eaton Canyon area according to some of the discussions and/or from the areas west of Lake according to others.

RBF Consulting, which is preparing the Altadena Community Visioning Report for the county, has released the comments from the third VIsioning Meeting in June.

According to Mina Brown of RBF, “The final report is still in progress and we won’t have an ETA until the end of next week.”

Hi Guys, wanted to let you know at 3:30 this morning was woke by my dog an a few others in the neighborhood barking like crazy. when I got up to look there was an adult bear not more than 5 feet from the French doors. I turned on the outside lights, after a few minutes he/ she lumbered to the back and stealthily climbed over the 6 ft fence with such ease and grace I couldn’t believe it.

The body of a man discovered by hikers in Big Tujunga Canyon late last month has been identified as missing Turkish engineer Ertug Ergun, officials said. 

Ergun, who worked in Bakersfield, was reported missing by his supervisor on June 20. His car was found two days later near the Stonyvale Picnic area. 

We will be going to Sacramento and back today to do our bit for medical science, so postings will be light.

The Sheriff Support Group Summer Concert Series opens with Those Manning Bhoys at Farnsworth Park tomorrow, Sat., July 7 at 7 PM.  Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich is expected to officially open up Altadena's summer concert season.
