Open Studios ALTA/PASA/DENA Art Tour at the Altadena Library Will Feature Artist Valérie Daval

On Saturday, June 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., as part of the 4th Open Studios Art Tour, featuring 50 exhibiting artists throughout Altadena and Pasadena, Altadena Library District proudly announces its participation and welcomes featured artist, Valérie Daval.

Croquis [in Motion], Daval’s latest exhibition, features sketches from live dance sessions. The word croquis is French for “sketch”. As part of the Open Studios Tour Valérie will sketch live dancers in different successive sessions from 11am to 6pm with dancers from Altadena’s Community Dance Jam and from Contact Improv Dance (ARC Pasadena).

“Sketching movements is challenging because the sketch is a fast drawing, it all happens in an instant, the speed of execution is the integral part of the character of the sketch.” ~ Valérie Daval

Croquis [in Motion] will showcase various sketches with dancers and choreographers in both LA and in France plus live sketches created on the event day. Live dance performances occur throughout the day in successive sessions and will include both solo and group dances.

Election Updates: Candidate Otis Triplett Withdraws from Race; Election Committee Extends Early Voting Hours

Altadena Town Council Election Committee Chairman Okorie Ezieme reported two developments in the upcoming Town Council elections race in a late-night Sunday email.

Ezieme reported that candidate Otis Triplett CT-4611 requested that his name be withdrawn from the roster of candidates for the current election.

Additionally, Ezieme said, the Election Committee has decided to extend the polling hours for the Early Voting on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Altadena Main Library, located at 600 E. Mariposa Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Here is the revised polling locations / hours schedule Ozieme provided:

Altadena Mountain Rescue Aids Injured Hiker This Morning

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team was activated for the rescue of a female hiker with an ankle injury on the Mt. Wilson Truck Trail in the Angeles National Forest at 9 am. today, Captain Christopher Reed said in an email today.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Engine 66 and Squad 11 located the hiker just south of the bridge in Eaton Canyon off the Mt. Wilson Truck Trail.  The hiker was on a marked trail when she tripped and injured her ankle.

The hiker, 52-year-old Arcadia resident, sustained a left ankle injury.  The hiker was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital by Schaefer ambulance.

Mayor Antonovich Memorial Day Message

LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Mayor Michael D. Antonovich issued the following Memorial Day message:

Altadena Residents Invited to Fundraising Event for the American Cancer Society at El Patron Mexican Restaurant

Come to El Patron Mexican Restaurant, 2555 N. Lake Avenue in Altadena, on May 27 to support a local Relay for Life team as you feed yourself and your family.

Twenty percent of the proceeds between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. will be given to Relay for Life Altadena in  advance of the May 30 American Cancer Society Relay for Life event, which will be held in Farnsworth Park, 568 E. Mount Curve Ave., in Altadena.

El Patron serves a variety of authentic Mexican dishes like the carnitas plate: a plate of deep fried pork with tomatoes, onion and cilantro; Chile Colorado; burritos, quesadillas, and much more. For patrons over 21 years of age the winearita – a margarita made with agave wine – is a customer favorite.

Family Fun at the Altadena Community Garden Annual Picnic

Oh, summer! Don’t you just love everything about it—the longer days, all the outdoor playtime for the kids, the trips to the park and the constantly perfect picnic weather?

Pledge to picnic this summer more for the family by joining the Altadena Community Garden Annual Picnic on June 27th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be yummy BBQ and fresh locally grown food to feast on and live music to enjoy. There will also be resource booths and garden tours perfect for green thumbs!

Monday, May 11th

11:23 AM – Jessie Warren Richard Love were arrested for an attempt robbery at Super King Market, 2260 Lincoln Av. after attempting to shoplift three (3) bottles of alcohol.

8:45 PM – A commercial burglary occurred at California Civic Engineering Inc., 2160 Parnell Way.  Suspect(s) entered the location by coring a hole in the wall.  Loss:  black Dell laptop, black Toshiba laptop, silver Toshiba laptop, hard drives.

Tuesday, May 12th

11:10 AM – An assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) occurred in the 400 block of Figueroa Dr.  Deputies responded to the area regarding gunshots fired and observed several people to the front of a residence.  A possible suspect has been described as a Hispanic male in a light brown sedan last seen eastbound on Figueroa from the location.

South Pasadenans Venture North to Altadena for Tournament of Roses Float Fundraiser

A group of South Pasadenans ventured out of the city on Sunday afternoon as the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses (SPTOR) held a wine and beer tasting fundraiser at the Altadena Ale & Wine House in the 2000 block of Fair Oaks Avenue.

Guests at the establishment made a $25 donation each to sample wine and beers. All proceeds will benefit the construction and decoration of the 2016 South Pasadena Rose Parade float that will roll down Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s Day.

SPTOR President Chris Colburn called the event a great “no effort” fundraiser that began a year ago and allows the community to get together in a fun setting.

“We drink a little wine and beer and make some money to help build his float,” he said.
