Hiker Stabbed in Eaton Canyon Improves, Faces Long Recovery; Suspect to be Arraigned Friday

Hiker Stabbed in Eaton Canyon Improves, Faces Long Recovery; Suspect to be Arraigned Friday

The hiker who was stabbed in Eaton Canyon Wednesday night is “doing a lot better” but faces “a long road of recovery” a law enforcement official said Friday morning.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Altadena Station Deputy Dan Paige said the suspect, Kristopher Brown, 35, is no longer considered to be a transient, even though investigators are yet to confirm his residence.

“We have more evidence that our attacker is not homeless,” Paige said.

Brown was scheduled to be arraigned today in Pasadena Superior Court. He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $30,000 bail.

The victim and the attacker apparently “didn’t know each other,” Paige said.

The hiker was stabbed about 8 p.m. Wednesday after a man jumped out from behind bushes on the Henninger hiking trail behind homes near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive and attacked him, officials believe.

The victim turned and ran towards a nearby home but was pursued and stabbed again by the suspect,

Eaton Canyon Night Hiker Reportedly Attacked, Stabbed by Man Shouting Gibberish

[Updated Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.] A hiker was in critical condition Wednesday night after he was stabbed by a gibberish-shouting man who reportedly jumped out from behind bushes and attacked him in Eaton Canyon about 8 p.m.

The victim turned and ran towards his nearby home but was pursued and stabbed again by the suspect, Altadena Station Sheriff’s deputies said.

The victim collapsed in the front yard of his home, in the vicinity of Altadena Drive and Roosevelt Avenue, authorities said.

Arriving deputies found the suspect upon their arrival. The suspect was arrested. The knife thought to be used in the attack was found, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman said.

The man was originally described by authorities as a transient because they could not obtain an address in connection with him. Thursday morning, officials will only say that the suspect is not cooperating and they know little about him and he was on the trail for reasons yet unknown.

Jaylene Moseley, Local Crusader for Social and Economic Justice, is Dead at 70

Jaylene Moseley, Local Crusader for Social and Economic Justice, is Dead at 70

Pasadena awoke Memorial Day to news that respected community member Jaylene Moseley has died from cancer, according to a Pasadena City official.

For three decades, Moseley was a fixture of Pasadena public life. Her work mixed the worlds of business and nonprofit community activism in ways that each supported and strengthened the other in a constructive synergy.

Moseley’s vision led her as a founding member of the Flintridge Center, which was the hub of her professional and philanthropic energies in Northwest Pasadena and Altadena since 1986.

As Flintridge Center President, she convened community stakeholders and facilitated innumerable partnerships and collaborative actions which made an indelible impact on the quality of life for Pasadena-area children, youth and families.

Last Wednesday, the Flintridge Center Board announced in an email to supporters that Moseley had been diagnosed with terminal, stage-four cancer and, as it appeared there was no cure, she was being made as comfortable as possible.

“All of us have been touched in some way by Jaylene’s all-consuming dedication to making our community a place that is free from the cycles of violence and poverty,
