The first day of summer, 2014, was a good day to eat outside, and the Altadena Community Garden obliged with a big blow-out to celebrate the return of its annual picnic.
After taking a year off to allow the re-landscaping of its street side, the collective of gardeners and their individual plots put together a feast for eyes and ears, as well as the stomach at its Loma Alta park location.
Adding to the festivities was “Early Morning,” a sculpture show that has been going on in the garden since May, and closes today (Sunday, June 22). Seven sculptors have created artwork — large and small — that are concealed on several of the garden plots, adding to the joy and surprise of the garden.
Several local musical acts contributed to the afternoon, along with a raffle and visits from several local officials.
