The Sheriff Support Group of Altadena’s 19th annual Concert in the Park series should be a crowd-pleaser — you could even call it a “best of,” as it features the return of many popular bands from years past.

The series begins with the perennials Down Beat Express featuring Jennifer Gates, and concludes with last year’s popular “Sgt. Pepper” Beatles tribute band.  in between, it’s returning favorites from Altadena’s own The Manning Boys and Friends and Brian Hughes, to last year’s popular MIGHTY Burnt Bacon, Whiskey Hayride, and Floyd and the Flyboys, along with the popular party band, Upstream for the fifth year in a row.

New to the roster is Kings of 88, “the ultimate tribute to piano rock.”

Concerts start at 7 PM on Saturdays through the summer at the Farnsworth Park amphitheater, 568 E. Mt. Curve Avenue.  Bring a picnic (but there’s usually an El Patron pop-up onsite), with the Altadena Rotary Club handling sales of beer and wine.

This year’s concerts are:

July 11: Down Beat Express with Jennifer Gates
July 18: The Brian Hughes Band (ultimate jazz)
July 25: The Manning Brothers & Friends (Irish music & dance)
Aug. 1: The MIGHTY Burnt Bacon (Stax-style soul band)
Aug. 8: Upstream (reggae, calypso, soca, & steel drum music)
Aug. 15: Kings of 88 (ultimate tribute to piano rock)
Aug. 22: Whisky Hayride (country music & more)
Aug. 29: Floyd & the Flyboys (R&B soul and funk)

And after going dark Labor Day weekend:
Sept. 12: Sgt. Pepper’s tribute to the Beatles

The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by : the Altadena Sheriff’s Station: Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich; Walmart Neighborhood Market; Linday Seyffert & Associates; the Rotary Club of Altadena; the Printworks; Georgia Rutherford in memory of Don Rutherford; the Altadena Community Chest; Altadena Town & Country Club; All American Audio Visual; and El Patron Mexican Food Restaurant.
