Stay cool as record heat likely this week

No two ways about it — it will be hot for most of the week.

The National Weather Service says that temperatures will be 100 degree or more in the inland valleys Monday and Tuesday, and an excessive heat warning is in effect.  Red flag fire conditions are expected al least through Monday.

Moisture from Hurricane Odile will begin to affect us starting Wednesday.  High surf and rip currents are possible on local beaches, and moisture will may move into the area late Wednesday and into Friday, bringing the threat of thunderstorms and showers, along with reduced temperatures (and by reduced, we mean 90 degrees).

The National Weather Service is predicting highs in Altadena of 101 on Monday, 102 on Tuesday, and 98 on Wednesday.

Los Angeles County will open its cooling centers during business hours — locally, it’s the Altadena Senior Center at 530 E. Mariposa Street (8 AM-5 PM), and the Pasadena Senior Center at 85 E. Holly Street (8 AM-8 PM).   We also recommend visiting the following during the hot hours: the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa Street, Bob Lucas Branch Library, 2659 N. Lincoln Avenue, any of the  libraries in the city of Pasadena, or the Westfield Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia, or Glendale Galleria.
