The Pasadena Unified School District sent out a notice that there will be a briefing Tuesday afternoon on the status of about $15,000 in musical instruments that were stolen from Marshall Fundamental School. While Altadena deputies recovered some items, the school district says that over 50 instruments are still missing.
The district said that the instruments were stolen from the school on Saturday, Feb. 28. On Monday night, March 2, deputies from the Altadena Sheriff Station invesigated a suspicious vehicle on Colorado Boulevard near Pasadena and found some items labeled property of the school district. The driver of the vehicle got away on foot, Altadena Sheriff Capt. Christopher Reed says that the district was informed of the recovery Wednesday morning, March 3, but the district did not respond. Wednesday night, March 3, a call went out to the community about the missing instruments, which was critical as the Marshall band was to play in all district concert on Friday and at Disneyland on Saturday.
On Friday, the Altadena sheriff station notified Marshall that they may have had their instruments in impound for days. Using borrowed instruments, the band managed to play their scheduled concerts.
According to the notice of the briefing from the school district, the recovered items were returned Monday and consised “of one television, two flash drives, three walkie talkie radios, one saxophone, one flute and three guitar amplifiers. Unfortunately, the school is still short over 50 instruments from the heist.”
