At a press conference today, school and law enforcement officials said that 51 instruments stolen from the Marshall Fundamental School band room on February 28 remain missing and the loss has crippled the music program, in spite of a flood of public support.
Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputies recovered a small portion of the stolen items last week, officials said.
“Unfortunately, the school is still short over 50 instruments from the heist,” Pasadena Unified spokesperson Adam Wolfson said.
About $15,000 worth of instruments and equipment were stolen from unsecured storage on the school’s campus at 990 N. Allen Ave., authorities said.
The band was scheduled to perform at an all-District music festival and at Disneyland when Pasadena Now broke the story of the loss last Thursday afternoon. The resulting media attention about forlorn young musicians’ plight brought a flood donations and offers to help replace the instruments.
A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money to help cover the cost of the stolen instrument, raising more than $15,000 so far.
