- The Altadena Historical Society’s blog post this week looks at the James McFadden House (northwest corner of Holliston/Altadena). Did you know that he founded Newport Beach and Balboa Island? (We didn’t!)
- KPCC has a great and timely feature about measles vaccination. Brooklyn Roffman of Altadena, who can’t get vaccinated for medical reasons, may be plunged into a school situation where lots of children aren’t getting vaccinated for less valid reasons. Check out the story.
- The Alex film Society (from the Alex Theater in Glendale, natch!) will have a showing of “The Band Wagon” (1953) starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse on Thursday, Feb. 26. Guests include India Adams (Charisse’s “ghost singer”) and Ian Whitcomb, the Pride of Altadena. Ian will be talking about the dance team of Fred and Adele Astaire, producer Arthur Freed and the MGM unit and British musical comedy star Jack Buchanan and much more. Purchase tickets online at www.alexfilmsociety.org
- Alzada the Bear, the underfed orphan cub who was rescued in the Chaney Trail neighborhood, is putting on weight at the Fund for Animal Wildlife Center. Officially Patient #2016 (but she’ll always be Alzada to us) is looking pretty perky in this video.
