- She gets around: Altadena’s Michelle Huneven seems to be everywhere this week: in the LA Weekly, she’s one of the “fascinating Angelenos” (but we’ve known that for about 20 years). The Weekly’s Sarah Fenske looks at our local literary goddess. An excerpt: “Their house is situated on the large, rambling sort of lot you seldom see in the L.A. area outside Altadena; there are two vegetable gardens, a small writing studio and citrus and olive trees.” Check it out here.
- SGV Newcomers: The Newcomers and Friends of San Gabriel Valley club invites new local residents in the San Gabriel Valley to join in their up-coming June events. The SGV Newcomers monthly “meet and greet” coffee will be held in Sierra Madre on June 4.The coffee is a great way to meet the members of SGV Newcomers and learn about the various monthly club activities. Additionally, the monthly luncheon will be held on June 11 in Monrovia. The luncheon will include an installation of the new board members. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to attend. To learn more about the Newcomers and Friends of San Gabriel Valley club contact them via email at sgvnewcomers@yahoo.com or visit them online at http://www.sgvnewcomers.com
- Into the village: The Pasadena Village, a non-profit organization supporting older adults who want to age in place, invites people of all ages to “Stay Independent, Stay Active, and Stay Connected” at a community Open House. The Open House will be held at the Lamanda Park Branch Library on Wednesday, May 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- CSI Altadena: There’s still room at the Altadena Sheriff Station’s Teen CSI Camp on June 9-13 for students age 11-14. Camp will be held June 9-13, from 8 AM-noon, and campers will learn crime investigative techniques at Farnsworth Park. Cost is $75 — contact Deputy Scott Rule during regular business hours at the Altadena Sheriff’s Station at (626) 798-1131 or email at SARULE@LASD.ORG.
