UPDATE: The LA County Sheriff’s Department sent out the following press release:

Four teens were rescued from a steep cliff near the Idlehour Trail, located in the San Gabriel Mountains, in the Angeles National Forest.

A few minutes after 1:00 P.M., on Thursday, June 19, 2014, a crew of five deputy personnel from Aero Bureau and the Emergency Services Detail responded to the area in the Air Rescue-5 helicopter to rescue the youths, who were stranded on the side of a steep mountain.

As the helicopter hovered at the side of the mountain, one of the crew members, a deputy paramedic, donned a harness and was hoisted down to the stranded hikers. He plucked each hiker from the cliff using a rescue strop and deposited them into the helicopter. The entire rescue took about ten minutes.

After each hiker was safe inside the airship, they were flown to Charles S. Farnsworth Park in Altadena, where they received medical attention. One hiker incurred minor injuries and was treated at the park.

It was discovered the group visited the area to hike the Idlehour Trail but wandered off and found themselves in a precarious position. It wasn’t until they climbed so high up the mountain that they realized it was far more dangerous to descend than they anticipated. Fortunately, the climbers had a cell phone with a signal and were able to articulate their location to responders.
