The Altadena Chamber of Commerce honored Citizen of the Year Monica Hubbard and Business of the Year El Patron Mexican Restaurant and its owner Alex Cortes at the Chamber’s annual banquet Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.The annual banquet was held at the Altadena Town & Country Club.Hubbard was honored for her years of work as a local community activist.  Founder of “Wired Women” and other online newsletters, she has also worked with community groups as varied as the Sheriff’s Community Advisory Council, Town Council Education Committee, Altadena Library Alliance, and others.El Patron and its owner, Alex Cortes, were recognized for becoming a community fixture in just five years, being present serving food at multiple community events, and holding charitable fundraisers at the restaurant.

There was also some business to do: Chamber directors were sworn in to new terms by Altadena Sheriff Capt. Christopher Reed.  Pictured from left: Ed Meyers, Daniel Harlow, Craig Sloane, Rachel Divine, and Billy Malone.  (Not pictured: Leslie Aitken and Onochie Chukwurah).  Miller will serve another term as Chamber president.

There was also a silent auction to benefit the Chamber’s Marion Lee Wullschlager Scholarship, which benefits local students who might not otherwise go to college.  The Chamber heard from scholarship winners Bryson Moore, 17 a senior from Marshall;  and Nikka Batisla-Ong, also 17, a senior at Pasadena High School.
