The Folly Bowl opens its concert season with the Brad Dutz Quartet on Sat., May 24, at 7:30 PM.
The Brad Dutz Quartet blends 20th century acoustic classical chamber music with elements of improvisation and jazz. Comprised of Brian Walsh on bass clarinet and Dr. Paul Sherman on oboe and English horn, cellist Chris Votek, and Brad on marimba, vibes, and percussion. The combination of marimba and cello mixed with the winds treat the listener to an unusual palate of instruments rarely heard in new music.
The Quartet first came together in 2005 for New Music Festival at the REDCAT Theater. The unit is a chamber group that has acoustic and jazz influences as well as classically-based unusual colors.
Admission is $10 — free CDs for the first five who pay admission.
The Folly Bowl is the garden amphitheater at 1601 E. Loma Alta Drive in Altadena. Bring your own refreshments, a blanket, and a pillow.
