Altadena indie filmmakers going SOLO

The Action on Film International Film Festival will screen the short narrative film SOLO on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2 PM. at the Krikorian Premiere Theatres in Monrovia, California. Tickets for the 2 p.m. block of films are $10

SOLO was independently funded and produced by Altadena residents Lisa Weseman and Lex Sadasivan, who both have deep roots in the flying community.

“Our grandparents, fathers, and brothers are all general aviation and experimental pilots who’ve instilled an enormous respect for flying,” said Weseman, the film’s writer. “After years of watching these pilots in awe, we knew we had to tell their story.”

SOLO is the heartfelt story of a mother and son mourning the loss of a pilot and uncovering a mystery surrounding his last flights. Visually stunning aerobatic scenes featuring home-built experimental aircraft backdrop a moving family drama with science fiction elements.

The majority of filming took place at Haller Air Park, a privately-owned air community located in northeast Florida. Haller is comprised of private residences and hangars situated directly on a grass runway, offering pilots and their families unending access to pursue their passion for flying. Residents include an array of aviation icons, decorated veterans of the Air Force and Navy, and leaders in the experimental/home-built aviation movement.

The Van RV-4, a light homebuilt aircraft, is prominently featured in the film. Built from a kit by the pilot himself, the RV-4 is both an aerobatic sport aircraft and an excellent cross-country machine, known for flying to out-of-the-way backcountry strips.

“As an ultra-low budget production, assembling the right team was crucial to SOLO’s success,” said Sadasivan, the film’s director. He partnered with Director of Photography/Producer Bruce Dickson to capture on film the unique beauty of the aviation world.

The film will screen as part of the 10th Annual Action on Film Festival, which runs from August 22 – 30, 2014 in Monrovia, California. The nine-day event showcases independent action films, as well as comedy, drama, animation, documentary and experimental projects.
