Sorry we hadn’t gotten to this sooner (yesterday was kind of hellish), but the LA County Board of Supervisors will be meeting THIS MORNING at 9:30 AM to discuss various permits for the MonteCedro project. (Even tho’ the project itself is on hold, the owners, Episcopal Homes, is still pursuing the permits required.)
Amendments include: changing the land use category for low-density residential to medium density; a conditional use permit; a housing permit;

The Altadena libraries are offering an assortment of computer classes, starting in May and going to the end of the year.
At the main library (600 E. Mariposa), three one-hour classes will be offered: Intro to Email (Wed., May 6); Intro to the World Wide Web (May 13); and Beginning Word (May 20). All classes run from 6:15-7:15,

State Assemblyman Anthony Portantino is offering a "Senior Scam Forum" on Fri., May 29, 1-3 PM at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St.

Old-timers may remember the wood sculpture “The Family” that was originally installed in the lobby of the departed Altadena Savings & Loan. Artist
Pamela Weir-Quiton created and installed the piece in 1969, and it’s been missing for many years:
Meticulously made of exotic woods, the monumental piece features a father, mother, daughter and their dog. The father stands eight feet tall, wearing a double breasted suit with a pin striped shirt and tie with a pocket handkerchief.

On April 28, 2006, Aaron Anthony Breau was 19 years old. As he waited in front of his Fremont, California, home to be picked up for a party, he was hit by random gunfire sprayed by passing gang bangers. He wasn’t the target, he was just there. He never knew the party was being held for him to celebrate his entry into the Jobcorp after which he planned to join the United States Army and serve in Iraq.

At about 5:05 three deer traveled west to east on Pinecrest Drive and stopped in front of Noyes Elementary School for a few minutes. I took several pictures then ran to get my grandson, but they were gone when I returned. Thought you might be interested. This is the first incident like this I can recall in the 37 years we have been here.

From 2:30 – 5:30 PM drop in and make papel picado, crepe paper flowers, and your own piñata! At 3:30 PM Storytellers from the We Tell Stories group will present Cuentos de la Familia (Stories of the Family) to celebrate family values through Latino folktales.

Dodger second baseman Orlando Hudson was at the Altadena kid farm this morning to support C.A.T.C.H., his foundation for autistic children, and it looks like a good time was had by all.
Hudson posed for photos and signed autographs, while the musical group The Conductors entertained the crowd.
Hudson was also profiled in the LA TImes today.

The Skywatcher was busy this morning with the incoming rumble of multiple military helicopters in formation at 9am… it lasted quite a while with 4 in formation helicopters heading southeast over Altadena followed shortly thereafter by 6 more helicopters heading to the same general direction.

PSN reports tonight that Diane Ainsworth, a writer and editor who most recently worked for USC, died March 29 in her Altadena home of a brain aneurysm. She was 56. Ainsworth also did time at JPL, RAND, UCLA, and UC-Berkeley. The story is here.

Dr. Irma Strantz of Altadena, Advocacy/Action Director, League of Women Voters, Pasadena, will receive the Council of Women's Clubs' Volunteer Service Award in April.
Dr. Strantz has also been active in Emergency Care Now, a group which is trying to put an emergency/urgent care facility on the old St. Luke's hospital property, and is organizing a "Single Payer Health Care"

Chris Considine "The Skywatcher" is on patrol again, and reports the latest:
At exactly 10:07 the second wave of extremely low flying military helicopters came rumbling across Altadena at what seemed like less than 500' altitude (the legal limit).
A first wave of 6 flying just as low was seen and heard over the Pasadena Altadena border heading once again to the South East at 9:30 or so and barely visible as they were almost below the trees.

New seats at Farnsworth! This just in from Supervisor Michael Antonovich's office:
To enhance the outdoor amphitheater experience at Charles S. Farnsworth Park, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s proposal to refurbish and replace the park’s amphitheater seating and two air condition ventilators.
The project is slated to be completed in Fall 2009,
