Rapid Transit Line Construction Shifts Pasadena Bus Stops Along Lake, Colorado and Hill

Construction on Metro’s North Hollywood-to-Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line is closing and relocating Pasadena Transit bus stops along Lake Avenue, Colorado Boulevard and Hill Avenue through the summer and into the fall, the City of Pasadena’s Pasadena Transit division said.
The stop changes accompany the first wave of station construction in Pasadena for the 19-mile, 22-station regional line, which broke ground in the city in April and is scheduled to open ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games.
For riders, the immediate effect is a string of closed and shifted stops near two of the city’s busiest corridors.
The Route 10 stop at the northwest corner of Lake Avenue and Colorado Boulevard is closed through July 3, with riders directed to the westbound stop at Colorado and Oak Knoll or the northbound stop at Lake and Green, according to Pasadena Transit.
Work at that intersection began the week of April 20 and is expected to run about three months, with crews starting on the northwest side before shifting to the northeast corner; project work will continue through September, moving to the south side of Colorado Boulevard, Metro construction notices state.
Separately, work at Hill Avenue and Green Street, near Pasadena City College, began the week of June 22 and is expected to run about three months, with weekday hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a Metro construction notice. Crews planned to start on the northwest and southwest corners before shifting to the east side of Hill Avenue and later performing traffic-signal work at Hill and Colorado, the notice states. The entrance to Pasadena City College’s Lot No. 1 from Hill Avenue will be temporarily closed for a short period as work progresses.
Lane reductions and sidewalk closures are in place at both intersections, with at least one lane kept open and pedestrian detours posted. Construction is dynamic and schedules are subject to change; riders can check the Pasadena Transit website, use the Transit app or call 626-744-4055 for updates. The updates were relayed to residents in District 3 Councilmember Justin L. Jones’s newsletter.
The North Hollywood-to-Pasadena BRT will link North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, Eagle Rock and Pasadena with zero-emission electric buses running in dedicated lanes, all-door boarding and enhanced stations, according to Metro.
Within Pasadena, enhanced stations are being built at Colorado and Lake and at Hill near Pasadena City College, and the line will connect to the Metro A (Gold) Line at Memorial Park.
Funded through Metro’s Measure M sales tax and state Senate Bill 1, the line is scheduled for completion in late 2027, with full corridor-wide construction expected by fall. Metro estimates the service will cut end-to-end travel times by 30 to 40 percent.
Metro broke ground on the line May 27 at Glendale City Hall.
“Every project needs a political champion in order to succeed,” Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said at the ceremony. Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro board member Kathryn Barger said the project “comes with unique challenges and has required a lot of effort to thread the needle, and while we haven’t overcome and solved all the challenges, I am optimistic that we can and will get there.”
The line has drawn opposition elsewhere along the corridor.
Some Eagle Rock residents sued over proposed bus lanes on Colorado Boulevard, and in May Metro filed a lawsuit against the City of Burbank, which has withheld construction permits over concerns about environmental review and the design of bus lanes on Olive Avenue.
Businesses within a quarter mile of the work may qualify for Eat Shop Play, a Metro program offering marketing support during construction.
Pasadena Transit has said the stop changes will be updated as work advances.
