Pasadena Hosts Fifth Annual Older Americans Month Celebration at Victory Park

Wednesday’s free morning gathering brings more than 50 exhibitors and the 2026 “Champion Your Health” theme to a single Pasadena lawn

The city’s annual celebration of Older Americans Month settles into Victory Park on Wednesday morning, drawing more than 50 exhibitors and a slate of remarks from public officials for a free three-hour resource fair tailored to Pasadena’s older adult population. The event, hosted jointly by the Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the Senior Commission and the nonprofit Pasadena Village, runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 20.

Attendees can expect free health screenings, educational presentations, giveaways, food, entertainment and direct access to local aging services, all anchored to this year’s national theme, “Champion Your Health,” which spotlights prevention, wellness and self-advocacy. The morning opens with remarks from public officials before the exhibitor row gets busy.

“Our community is fortunate to have an extensive network of support, from health care and older adult programming to cultural and recreational opportunities,” Katie Brandon, Senior Commissioner and executive director of Pasadena Village, said when the event was announced. “We’re looking forward to bringing people together to connect, learn, and celebrate aging in a positive way.”

The celebration marks the city’s fifth annual observance of Older Americans Month. Mayor Victor M. Gordo issued a citywide proclamation earlier this month recognizing May as Older Americans Month in Pasadena and acknowledging the contributions of older residents. Older Americans Month has been observed nationally each May since 1963, when President John F. Kennedy first designated it as Senior Citizens Month; President Lyndon B. Johnson formally renamed it after signing the Older Americans Act in 1965.

In-kind support comes from Pasadena Village, Home Instead-Pasadena, UCLA Health, Villa Gardens and additional community sponsors.

The Older Americans Month Celebration will run on Wednesday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 744-7300 or visit CityOfPasadena.net/OAM. Admission is free.
