‘No Kings: Vote Early’ Rally Planned for October 17 in Old Pasadena

San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible plans to hold a “No Kings: Vote Early” rally from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Colorado Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, according to Indivisible.

The community-hosted event will focus on voter registration and early-voting information ahead of the Nov. 3 general election. Organizers said they plan to help attendees check their voter registrations and find information about ballot drop boxes, voting centers and other voting options.

The event is also being promoted as a “Save U.S. Saturdays Vote Early Edition,” connecting it with San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible’s recurring Saturday gatherings at the Pasadena intersection. The organization says it holds weekly gatherings at Colorado and Fair Oaks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Voting early is your super power!” organizers said. “We will help you prepare to Vote Early!”

Indivisible describes the Pasadena gathering as a rally but says the event is “not purely a protest” and will focus on voter participation. Organizers describe the event as nonpartisan and designed to increase participation among all eligible voters.

San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible describes itself as a grassroots organization composed of residents from Pasadena and other San Gabriel Valley and foothill communities. The organization identifies voter education, election security and nonviolence among its priorities.

The Pasadena rally will take place two days before California’s regular voter-registration deadline for the Nov. 3 election. The deadline to register online or have a mailed registration application postmarked is Oct. 19, according to the California secretary of state. Eligible residents who miss that deadline may use conditional voter registration through Election Day at a county elections office, polling place or voting center.

Los Angeles County began mailing vote-by-mail ballots to registered voters Oct. 1 and reported that more than 400 official ballot drop boxes would be available countywide. Los Angeles County Vote Centers are scheduled to begin opening Oct. 24, one week after the Pasadena rally.

Organizers said participants are expected to act lawfully, avoid bringing weapons and attempt to de-escalate confrontations. They describe nonviolent action as a core principle of No Kings events.
