Altadena Rebuild Trade Show Returns Sunday at The Collaboratory

Day One, a Pasadena nonprofit, organized the free event at The Collaboratory in Altadena to offer hands-on guidance for displaced families navigating the long road to recovery

A free trade show for Eaton Fire survivors will be held Sunday at The Collaboratory in Altadena, offering hands-on access to rebuild professionals, financial resources, and recovery tools, the Pasadena nonprofit Day One announced.

The Altadena Rebuild Trade Show runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 540 W. Woodbury Rd. Admission is free, with registration available through Day One’s Eventbrite page at bit.ly/altadenatradeshowtix. The event brings Day One’s rebuild programming to the Eaton Fire Collaborative’s central recovery site, which opened in October.

Day One, founded in 1987, has operated as a Pasadena-area community nonprofit for nearly four decades, according to its organizational profile. Christy Zamani has served as the group’s executive director since 2007 and also chairs the Eaton Fire Collaborative’s Long-Term Recovery Group, according to Day One’s website and prior Pasadena Now reporting.

The Eaton Fire began January 7, near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, according to Cal Fire. The fire burned 14,021 acres and destroyed 9,418 structures, damaging an additional 1,073, Cal Fire reported. At least 19 people died, according to City News Service.

Day One describes the April 19 event as a hands-on showcase where displaced families can “see, touch, and feel what rebuilding can look like,” according to the organization’s Eventbrite listing. The listing states the event aims to connect residents with vetted rebuild options and long-term recovery tools to reduce the long-term impacts of displacement.

This is Day One’s second rebuild trade show. The first was held August 3 at Loma Alta Park Gymnasium with eight community partners including the Altadena Rotary Club, Altadena Town Council, Altadena Builds Back Foundation, Department of Angels, Rebuild Altadena, Altadena Collective, Altagether, and United Policyholders, according to prior Pasadena Now coverage. Partners for the April 19 event were not listed in the public Eventbrite announcement.

The Collaboratory opened at 540 W. Woodbury Rd. in October and houses more than 30 organizations on a daily basis, according to Pasadena Now coverage of the opening. The site previously served as a temporary staging area for first responders during the Eaton Fire, Pasadena Now reported.

At the October ribbon-cutting, Zamani said of the hub: “All these offices are filled because people love their community, they love Altadena, and they care about our survivors. We believe, and we will not stop until everybody gets back home. That’s what this is about.”

Parking at The Collaboratory is limited to those with accessibility needs, Day One said on its Eventbrite listing. A free parking structure is available at Lincoln and Woodbury, and the site is served by Metro bus line 662, Pasadena Transit lines 31 and 32, Metro Micro, and the Metro A Line, according to the listing.

Registration for the trade show is available at bit.ly/altadenatradeshowtix.
