Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger and the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs will host a free community open house Saturday, June 6, to welcome residents back to the newly renovated Altadena Community Center at 730 E. Altadena Drive.

The event, titled “New Beginnings,” runs from noon to 4 p.m. and marks what DCBA describes in a press release as the reopening of a longstanding community gathering place being reimagined as a resident-focused service hub for Altadena. It is part of DCBA’s yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary and is the first community open house at the Center under DCBA operations, which began January 1, 2025 — just days before the Eaton Fire.

According to the press release, visitors will be able to tour the facility, meet representatives from County departments and community organizations, receive free blood pressure and glucose screenings, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and learn about resources to support recovery and rebuilding efforts following the Eaton Fire. The event will also give residents an opportunity to share feedback that DCBA says will help shape the Center’s future programming and services.

Supervisor Barger and DCBA Director Rafael Carbajal are scheduled to deliver remarks at 12:30 p.m., followed by a media availability with both officials from 12:45 p.m. to 1 p.m.

The Altadena Community Center, established in July 2003, sits at 730 E. Altadena Drive and serves as a hub for County and community events benefiting Altadena and Los Angeles County residents. After DCBA assumed operations on Jan. 1, 2025, smoke damage and temporary closures from the Eaton Fire forced the Center to reopen in a limited capacity as a Survivor Support Center, according to the press release. The Center has operated weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the Survivor Support period.

The press release says recent improvements have expanded the facility’s ability to serve residents through enhanced office space for partner organizations and upgrades to its community meeting areas. Six partner organizations meet at the Center: the Altadena Chamber of Commerce, Altadena Heritage, Altadena Historical Society, Altadena NAACP, Altadena Town Council, and Sheriff’s Support Group.

DCBA Director Rafael Carbajal, appointed to the role by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 5, 2021, has framed the 50th-anniversary year as a moment of reflection for the department. “I am proud of the legacy of service DCBA has built over the last 50 years,” Carbajal said in the department’s April 15 anniversary announcement. “What makes this department special is our staff, past and present, and the commitment they bring to serving Los Angeles County residents daily.”

The Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 15, 2026, as the 50th anniversary of DCBA, which the press release says has worked across that span to “level the playing field” for consumers, tenants, workers, and immigrant communities in LA County.

Limited onsite parking will be available Saturday. DCBA-operated Center hours are otherwise Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Center can be reached at (626) 398-6174, and information about DCBA services is available at dcba.lacounty.gov or (800) 593-8222.
