A 50K Relay Returns to Raise Funds for Altadena and Palisades Recovery

Silver Lake Track Club’s second annual run raised over $50,000 last year

The run that raised $50,000 for wildfire relief last May is back.

Silver Lake Track Club hosts its second annual Altadena to the Palisades Ultra-Marathon Relay on February 7, a 50-kilometer course connecting the two communities hit hardest by the January 2025 fires. Participants can run the full 31 miles, bike the route, form five-person relay teams, or complete any segment they choose.

One year after the Eaton and Palisades fires destroyed more than 16,000 structures and killed 31 people, the relay serves as both a fundraiser and a physical link between neighborhoods still recovering. The route begins at Good Neighbor Bar in Altadena, passes through Eagle Rock, Silver Lake, Hollywood, and Santa Monica, and ends at Will Rogers Beach.

All proceeds will benefit four organizations working in fire-affected areas, according to organizers: My Tribe Rise, Greenline Housing Foundation, Altadena Mountain Rescue, and Malibu Search & Rescue.

My Tribe Rise, a Black-led nonprofit founded in Altadena in 2019, has served more than 4,100 people through its Survivors Power Luncheons Program since the fires, according to the organization. Greenline Housing Foundation has worked to secure interim housing for displaced Altadena residents and has purchased fire-damaged lots to protect them from speculative developers.

Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, which has conducted volunteer search and rescue operations in the San Gabriel foothills since 1951, acknowledged the support on social media.

“Thank you to Silverlake Track Club for the continued support,” the team posted.

The event is not a race. “Rebuilding LA from the wildfires is an ultra-marathon, not a sprint,” organizers wrote on the club’s website. “This is not a race, but a celebratory run to reflect and re-energize efforts to rebuild the beautiful city of Los Angeles.”

Checkpoints are spaced roughly 10 kilometers apart at local businesses: Found Coffee in Eagle Rock, Makisupa in Silver Lake, Superba in Hollywood, Tuscan Son in Santa Monica, and Demitasse in Santa Monica before the finish at Will Rogers Beach.

Silver Lake Track Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2017, hosts free community runs three times weekly and organizes charity events throughout the year.

“You can run, walk, bike, scooter, volunteer, cheer, vibe out however you want,” organizers said. “The main goal is to raise funds for fire relief and create a community experience for LA.”

Registration costs $55.20 through Eventbrite at eventbrite.com. The relay starts at 8:00 a.m. at Good Neighbor Bar, 2311 Lincoln Avenue, Altadena.

Those unable to attend can donate directly through Givebutter by texting “REBUILDLA” to 33-555.

The logs may be cleared from the burn zones, but the rebuilding continues.
