Supervisor Barger Takes Oath in Pasadena For Final Term As Los Angeles County Supervisor

Fifth District representative pledges collaborative approach in ceremony attended by fellow supervisors and County officials

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger was sworn in Saturday for her third and final term representing the Fifth District at Caltech’s The Athenæum. The Fifth District includes Pasadena.

More than 200 community leaders, constituents, family members and officials attended the event, including Supervisors Holly J. Mitchell, Lindsey P. Horvath and Janice Hahn.

The Honorable Jackie Lacey administered the oath of office, with Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffery Prang and Sheriff Robert G. Luna among the distinguished attendees at the November 2 ceremony.

“I will face our County’s challenges head-on,” Barger said in her post-oath remarks. “I will continue to use an approach that contains ingredients I believe are essential for success. Firstly, effective governance is rooted in collaboration.”

First elected as Fifth District Supervisor in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, Barger secured her latest term during California’s March 5 primary elections, garnering over 56 percent of votes cast.

Her 35-year career with Los Angeles County has shaped leadership priorities characterized by supporting public safety, developing sustainable solutions for homelessness, enhancing mental health services, and fostering initiatives to strengthen the local economy.

Pasadena’s Door of Hope CEO Reverend Megan Katerjian delivered the invocation, while Service Employees International Union Local 721 President David Green, Commissioner Sarah Dusseault, and Barger’s brother John Barger offered remarks during the ceremony.

Following the oath, Barger engaged with attendees, discussing her vision for the future and listening to their perspectives.
