The workshop, organized by NHS LA County and the Restore the Legacy LA Coalition, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Collaboratory, 540 W. Woodbury Avenue in Altadena.
The event marks the one-year anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades fires, which devastated Los Angeles County on Jan. 7, 2025. According to the source materials, the workshop aims to help wildfire survivors navigate the rebuilding process, access financial resources and prevent displacement in communities facing gentrification pressure and predatory real estate speculation.
Services will be provided in English and Spanish and include step-by-step guidance on financing options such as mortgage relief and grant programs; free estate planning services including living trusts and wills; architect and general contractor selection advice; contractor vetting and bid-process consultation; technical service provider access; mission-driven real estate services; and property assessments, according to the event description.
The Collaboratory, which opened Oct. 7, 2025, serves as a centralized community hub for Eaton Fire survivors. It houses the Eaton Fire Collaborative, Long-Term Recovery Group, Community Recovery Group and Leadership Council. More than 50 partner organizations operate from the site, including NHS LA County, Operation HOPE, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, YWCA, CHIRLA, Greenline Housing Foundation, the Altadena Earthseed Community Land Trust, the Altadena Recovery Team, Day One, Hope Ventures and Medical Mission Adventures.
NHS LA County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1984, describes itself in organizational materials as the largest nonprofit affordable homeownership provider in Southern California. Its disaster-response history includes the 2018 wildfires, the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the 2008 foreclosure crisis and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
The workshop is one of several events scheduled in Altadena on Jan. 10 to commemorate the anniversary of the fires, according to the source document.
