The council takes public comment on a conditional use permit for Ferrazzani’s and a Mariposa letter; YMCA, Public Works and Edison also report
Candidate speeches, two action-item votes and a presentation on legislation by state Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez are on the Altadena Town Council’s agenda for Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Altadena Community Center.
The council is set to vote on a conditional use permit for Ferrazzani’s and on a Mariposa letter, taking public comment on each item. Council member Isis Moulden described them in an Oct. 16 newsletter to neighbors as a beer and wine permit and a project support letter.
The elected, nonpartisan council conveys residents’ needs to county, state and federal agencies for unincorporated Altadena, and its members serve without pay.
The Ferrazzani’s item comes from the Land Use Committee, chaired by Vice Chair Milissa Marona, and is to be presented by Moulden and Anton Anderson, who both represent Census Tract 4610. Morgan Whirledge, who chairs the Rebuilding and Infrastructure Committee, is to present the Mariposa letter.
Candidates for the council’s November election may make presentations of up to three minutes, and appearing is encouraged but not required. The council is scheduled to approve the final slate of candidates by majority vote at the meeting. Eight seats are up, one in each census tract, and two members represent each tract in staggered two-year terms. Voting is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 7, at Loma Alta Park Library, Prime Pizza and Bob Lucas Library.
YMCA District Vice President Merton Harris is also scheduled to make a special presentation. Community reports include an update on tree removal from Morgan Newcomb of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and Southern California Edison’s response to a letter from the council. Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation and the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District are also to report.
Reports are also scheduled from the Altadena Sheriff’s Station, the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, along with officers’ reports led by Chair Nic Arnzen. Committees on renters’ protection, legislation, rebuilding and safe streets are to report, followed by reports from Census Tracts 4610, 4603.02 and 4611.
To speak, residents fill out a comment card at the back of the room and give it to a council member before the general comment period. Comments are limited to two minutes. The council advises: “The Council does not respond during meetings; to request follow-up, include your contact information.”
The meeting is to stream live on Pasadena Media’s YouTube channel. The council meets on the third Tuesday of each month and records all of its meetings.
