Agenda includes committee reports on Eaton Fire recovery, land use and renter protections, with public comment available at the Altadena Community Center

The Altadena Town Council will hold its regular April meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Altadena Community Center, with a Los Angeles County Public Works infrastructure presentation, a scheduled vote on a letter regarding Southern California Edison, and committee reports spanning Eaton Fire recovery, land use and renter protections on the agenda.

The meeting at 730 E. Altadena Drive will be streamed live on the Pasadena Media YouTube channel, according to the Council’s published agenda. It is the Council’s first regular monthly meeting following the March 17 session, whose minutes are scheduled for approval by Recording Secretary Sylvia Vega.

Chair Nic Arnzen will open the meeting and seek approval of the agenda following a flag salute led by Gayle Nicholl-Ali and roll call by Vega.

Arnzen, Treasurer Darlene Greene and Corresponding Secretary Kim Yu are scheduled to deliver officer reports.

Yu will present two items under the corresponding secretary’s report, according to the agenda. The first, listed as item 2.4.1, is an item for vote described as a letter regarding Southern California Edison. The second, item 2.4.2, is described as a CORE letter. The agenda does not disclose the text of either letter.

The vote comes as Southern California Edison’s undergrounding plan for Altadena has drawn sustained public attention. The utility announced in April a plan to underground 63 circuit miles of distribution lines in Altadena and surrounding areas as part of an $860 million to $925 million rebuilding effort across Altadena and Malibu, according to a statement from Southern California Edison.

CORE, the Community Organized Relief Effort, broke ground January 10 on the 1,600-square-foot Center for Community at 2231 Lincoln Avenue, a case management hub for Eaton Fire survivors scheduled to open in summer 2026, according to a Los Angeles County release and the Eaton Fire Collaborative. Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger said at the groundbreaking: “I am proud to support this important project. The establishment of a long-term case management service hub for Eaton Fire survivors marks a critical next step in Altadena’s recovery.”

Public safety reports are scheduled from Altadena Sheriff’s Station Captain Márquez, California Highway Patrol Officer Keller, and Maria Grycan, Community Services Liaison for Los Angeles County Fire, according to the agenda.

The meeting’s special presentation will be given by Alicia Ramos, Principal Engineer with Los Angeles County Public Works, addressing infrastructure, joined by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning department. Public comment on the presentation will be limited to two minutes per speaker, and no questions will be answered by Councilmembers or the presenters, the agenda states.

A community report on temporary construction signs will be presented by Sharon Guidry, Deputy Director, and Ramon Cordova, Principal Regional Planner, both of Los Angeles County Regional Planning. Guillermo Portillo is scheduled to deliver a Parks and Recreation report.

Seven committee reports follow, according to the agenda: Land Use by Justin Mahramas; Altadena Eaton Fire Recovery Fund Advisory by Connor Cipolla; Legislative and Renters Protection by Darlene Greene; Rebuilding and Infrastructure by Morgan Whirledge; Education by Isis Moulden; and Safe Streets and Mobility by Dorothy Wong. Census tract reports for tracts 4611 and 4610 are scheduled before adjournment.

General public comment is limited to two minutes per speaker, and the Council does not respond to public comment during meetings, the agenda states. Residents wishing to speak must fill out a comment card found in the back of the meeting room and hand it to a Councilmember before or during the meeting prior to the general comment period.

The Council may be reached at (626) 791-9457. The Altadena Town Council meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
