Santa Ana Heat Keeps Pasadena Near 90 Before Sharp Cooldown and Rain Chances Next Week

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

Pasadena will remain warm and breezy through the weekend under Santa Ana wind conditions, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees before a significant cooling trend arrives early next week and brings the possibility of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said Pasadena is expected to reach a high of about 89 degrees Friday under sunny skies. Northeast winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 30 mph, will contribute to elevated fire-weather concerns across the area.

The warm pattern will continue Friday night, when temperatures are expected to fall to around 65 degrees under mostly clear skies. Northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will continue, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 90 degrees. Winds will be lighter, generally from the east-southeast at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will remain well above normal through the weekend.

A gradual cooling trend will begin Sunday, when Pasadena is expected to reach a high near 85 degrees. Light morning northeast winds will shift to the west-southwest during the afternoon.

The cooling will continue into next week. Monday’s high is forecast near 82 degrees before temperatures fall sharply to around 71 degrees Tuesday and 67 degrees Wednesday and Thursday.

National Weather Service forecasters said a developing weather system and a return of onshore flow will bring cooler air and increasing moisture to Southern California. Mid- and high-level clouds are expected to increase Monday night ahead of the next storm system.

Rain chances first appear Tuesday, when Pasadena has a slight chance of showers. The likelihood of precipitation increases Tuesday night, with showers becoming likely Wednesday. Additional chances for showers could continue into Thursday.

Forecasters said confidence is increasing that much of the region will receive at least some rainfall next week, although the exact timing and amounts remain uncertain. Most forecast scenarios indicate precipitation beginning sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The combination of warm temperatures, low humidity and offshore winds will continue to create elevated fire-weather concerns through Saturday. Residents are urged to use caution with any potential ignition sources during the period of dry and windy weather.
