Congresswoman Chu Endorses Incumbent Michelle Richardson Bailey for Reelection to PUSD Board

Congresswoman Judy Chu has endorsed Michelle Richardson Bailey for reelection to the PUSD Board of Education in District 3, it was announced Oct. 14.

“I’m honored to have Congresswoman Judy Chu’s support,” Richardson Bailey said.

Richardson Bailey, who represents District 3 on the Pasadena Board of Education, has been connected to the district for more than three decades as a student, employee, parent, grandparent and board member, the endorsement announcement said.

She attended PUSD schools and later spent years working in the district, including as secretary to the superintendent and at Pasadena High School and Blair High School, the announcement said.

During her tenure on the board, she has served in leadership roles related to facilities, safety, board policy, labor-management relations and community oversight, and she authored the board’s Commitment to Black Students resolution and commissioned its Commitment to Latinx Students resolution, the announcement said.

“My connection to PUSD has continued through every chapter of my life, and that experience has shaped how I approach public service,” Richardson Bailey said. “I have been a student in our schools, worked alongside the employees who keep them running, raised children who attended PUSD, and now have grandchildren enrolled in the district.”

“I understand the responsibility that comes with making decisions on behalf of our students, families, and employees, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue that work,” she said.

Richardson Bailey is also endorsed by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party AD 41, the ACT Democratic Club, the Pasadena Arroyo Democratic Club, the National Women’s Political Caucus Greater Pasadena Area and Teamsters Local 986, the announcement said.

Her individual endorsers include state Assemblymember Chris Holden of District 41; Pasadena Councilmembers Tyron Hampton of District 1 and Justin Jones of District 3; former school board members Tom Selinske and Renatta Cooper; retired PUSD administrator Dr. Eddie Newman; Sierra Madre Mayor Kris Lowe; and community advocate Juanita West-Tillman, according to the announcement.
