South Pasadena camp culminates two-week session with four performances July 18-19
A cast of young performers will take the stage at the Fremont Centre Theatre later this month for four performances of “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.,” closing out the first session of Young Stars Theatre Academy’s summer camp.
Performances are set for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both July 18 and July 19, according to the academy’s website. Tickets are sold through the group’s online box office, and the shows can also be streamed for those who can’t attend in person. Streaming access closes 15 minutes before each showtime, and all online ticket sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges, the academy’s website states. A ticket is required for every audience member regardless of age.
The production caps a two-week day camp that runs July 6 through July 19, with campers rehearsing weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a Los Angeles summer-camps directory listing for the program. The musical is based on the educational television series of the same name and includes songs such as “Conjunction Junction” and “I’m Just a Bill,” the South Pasadenan reported in its coverage of the academy’s 2026 summer lineup.
Young Stars Theatre Academy has staged shows at the Fremont Centre Theatre, at 1000 Fremont Ave., Suite 100, since January 2016, according to the organization. The academy was founded in 2000 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, by Jack and Gloria Bennett, who ran a yearly summer theater and drama camp before deciding to build a year-round community theater for young performers, according to the academy’s website. The group later relocated its home base to South Pasadena. Gloria Bennett, the program’s director, has produced more than 50 camps and nearly 250 shows since staging her first in 1997, according to the summer-camps directory listing.
The camp is open to performers ages 6 to 18 and runs multiple sessions each summer. A second session, running July 20 through August 2, will culminate in its own four performances on August 1 and 2, according to the directory listing. A third program, billed as a “Broadway Junior Revue: Pure Imagination,” is scheduled to run August 3 through 9, with performances August 8 and 9.
Tickets and streaming access for the “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” performances are available through the academy’s website. If a show sells out, the academy says walk-ins can be added to a waiting list at the door, though a spot is not guaranteed.
