Altadena Landlords Must Re-Register Rental Properties

With LA County Registration for the county’s 2026-27 rent stabilization program is open now, according to a county notice
Landlords in Altadena and other unincorporated pockets of Los Angeles County are required to complete annual registration for the 2026-27 Rent Registry cycle, according to a notice from the county’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA).
The registry applies to owners of rental units, rooms within rental units, and mobilehome spaces in unincorporated areas of the county, which includes Altadena. Property owners must register their properties annually under the county’s Rent Stabilization Ordinances, according to DCBA.
Existing users can log into the Rent Registry, update their unit or space information if needed, and submit their registration for staff review, according to the notice. First-time users must use their Assessor’s Parcel Number and a unique PIN to add the property, enter unit or space information into their account, and provide all required details before submitting the registration for staff review. Once a registration is submitted, DCBA said it will review the filing and notify the property owner when it is ready for payment.
DCBA said some properties may be exempt from registration, including owner-occupied properties, homes destroyed in the January 2025 wildfires, and other specific cases not detailed in the notice. Property owners are encouraged to visit the department’s website or contact DCBA directly for more information on exemptions.
Property owners who live at the property as their primary residence and are not landlords do not need to register, according to DCBA. Those owners can email the department at rentregistry@dcba.lacounty.gov so DCBA can update its records.
Owners may also register and pay in person or by mail, DCBA said, directing property owners to its website for a full list of available payment methods.
DCBA said official registration letters will arrive in property owners’ mailboxes shortly. The department is also holding “Rent Registry 101″ workshops for landlords. DCBA representatives are available by appointment Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for property owners with questions. Appointments can be made online or by calling (800) 593-8222.
The Rent Registry is part of the county’s broader Rent Stabilization Ordinances program, which governs rental properties in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Those areas include Altadena, though not the city of Pasadena, which is separately incorporated.
Property owners with questions about registration status, deadlines, fees or exemptions should contact DCBA directly at (800) 593-8222 or rentregistry@dcba.lacounty.gov, or visit the department’s website for the most current information.
