Just in case you are in an evac zone, reader Steven Durham forwarded this message from the Pasadena Humane Society:

As you may recall, last September, friends like you made it possible for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA to provide food, shelter and care for nearly 400 animals evacuated from areas threatened by the Station Fire.  Now, many of these same areas are in danger of mudslides and flash floods.  Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for over 600 residences in the foothill communities and as the rain continues to pour down, this number will likely grow.

PHS is working with the County of Los Angeles to protect families and their defenseless animals from disaster. Evacuated residents can bring their pets to one of three off-site evacuation centers and be assured they will be safe: the Sierra Madre Recreation Center at 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., La Canada High School at 4463 Oak Grove Dr., or the Glendale Civic Center at 1401 Verdugo Rd.  Animals brought in to these centers will then be transported to our shelter.  We will be sure that they receive appropriate housing and care until evacuation orders are lifted and it is safe for them to return home.  Residents may also bring their animals directly to the shelter if they prefer. All animals will be cared for at no cost to their owners.

Regular PHS shelter functions will remain closed throughout this emergency, but our dedicated staff will be standing by and available to help the community 24 hours a day. If you need assistance or have any questions, please call us at (626) 792-7151.  We are happy to help.
