The chamber music ensemble Pacific Serenades will perform in Altadena on Sat., March 3, with a world premiere of Mark Carlson's "Cave Paintings" for saxophone, violin, viola, cello, and piano.  The new piece will be played alongside Schumann's "String Quartet in Eb major, Op. 47," and Josef Suk's "Four PIeces for Violin and Piano, Op. 17," a combination of chamber works past and present.

The concert will be held at the Zane Grey Estate, 396 E. Mariposa St., home of Gloria Putnam and Stephen Rudicel, starting at 8 PM.  

Since its founding in 1982 by composer Mark Carlson, Pacific Serenades has become one of the foremost chamber music organizations in the nation and one of the longest performing on the west coast. For 26 seasons, the model of playing new works alongside standard repertoire has served to encourage an experience both visceral and intellectual—the conversation between old and new resulting in a deeper understanding of chamber music as a truly living art.
