The Altadena Town Council will soon release an application for residents who want to be part of the council’s subcommittee looking at Altadena’s visioning process.

According to council vice-chair Jamie Bissner, the major thrust of the committee will be to look at revisions to the county’s Community Standards District for Altadena.  The CSD was last revised in 1986.  

The committee will include members of the Town Council,

• Campaign sign burned: KABC has a piece about finding a burned Obama campaign sign on Sonoma Drive.  Sheriffs are following up to see if it could be construed a hate crime, but reports no other such incidents in the area.  KABC
• Valentine house for sale: Architect Henry Greene (of the Greene & Greene’s) developed the Wild Wood Park area for Walter D. Valentine c. 1922-24, building new houses or remodeling existing ones. 

Saxman and Altadena resident Dale Fielder is performing this week in a series of tribute concerts to Pepper Adams.

Adams, who died in 1986, is one of jazz’s most prominent baritone saxiphonists, and Fielder is one of the leading exponents of his style.  This week, Fielder has been performing around the Los Angeles area as part of the First International Pepper Adams Jazz Festival.

Fielder also released his 14th album this week, 

Altadena Heritage presents Altadena resident and frequent LA Times gardening writer Emily Green in a waterwise gardening workshop on Wed., Nov. 7, at 7 PM at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr.

Rather than going the full xeriscape route, Green will look at ways to curb water runoff and alternative landscaping for yards and parkways in an effort to save water and keep polluted runoff from local waterways.

For the past few years, Loma Alta Park director Penny Daniels has cobbled together a program that provides low-cost all-day preschool for children in the Altadena community, and according to parent Maya Estrada, the community has supported the effort.  The Tiny Tots have taken field trips to the Altadena Community Garden, a volunteer taught baby yoga, and community members have donated time and supplies, she said.

As the summer came to a close and the school year began, the young men of Mentoring and Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD) reminisced on the activities at the 8th Annual MPYD Cardinal Paint Summer Camp on Aug.

We'll be largely out of pocket today as we'll be in Sacramento.  There'll be  a story soon on our son's sojourn as a guinea pig for medical science — in the meantime, it'll be an intense, long day today.

 This “Celebration of Halloween in art” will run from 10 AM-3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays thru Nov. 3.  Artists include those accomplished in fine art, comics, film, TV and animation, including Rick Baker, Michael Kaluta,

After weeks of hot weather, now it’s time to pay the piper — in higher electric bills as residents desperately try to cool down.

In the President Streets neighborhood, Lisa Gibson is dealing with a $700 electric bill.  Yes, that’s one month’s bill.

Altadena’s New Heart Foursquare Church announces its much anticipated premier annual event Spirit Life Conference to be held on October 26, 27 and 28, 2012.  This year the theme is “Running to Win the Prize – Staying On Course”.
