That's what you're smelling: there's a brushfire in Monrovia, several agencies involved.  We're monitoring the scanner.  Two firemen down with injuries so far.

City of Monrovia is tweeting (3.20 PM):

Be advised @MonroviaPolice closing streets north of Foothill Blvd, Lincoln to Myrtle to thru traffic.

As of about 6:15 PM this evening, Monrovia Fire Department indicated the fire was estimated to still be around 150 acres.  They issued a press release at about 6:40 affirming the information.

That was its estimated size by about 1 pm this afternoon.

The fire was moving east as of the time of their last briefing and winds are relatively light.

Those who’ve lived on the foothills for a while are acutely aware that wind speed and direction can change in a blink and fire has a mind of its own.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team held a fundraiser Saturday, April 20,  at the Dog Haus Bier Garten in Old Pasadena.  For anyone who mentioned the team, the Dog Haus contributed 15% of sales.

Former assemblyman Anthony Portantino provided the picture, where he’s mingling with members of the rescue team.  Portantino writes us that he decided to contribute after reading about the event in Altadenablog.

• Justice: Altadena’s David de Csepel  has been leading his family in recovering the artwork of  his great-grandfather, Baron Mor Lipot Herzog.  Baron Herzog, a Budapest-based Jewish banker, had 40 artworks, valued at $100 million, looted during World War II that are now in the possession of museums in Hungary.  Recently a federal appellate court allowed Herzog’s family to proceed with a lawsuit against the Hungarian government and the museums.  LA Times’ Jori Finkel has the details.

The Altadena Town & Country Club will have its sixth annual Open House on Sunday, April 28 from 11 AM-4 PM.

The event will showcase the club’s elegant banquet rooms full service menus and innovative to core ideas for weddings, theme parties, and other special events.

There will be guided tours for prospective members during the day as well as hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.

The Altadena Town Council election is set for Saturday, June 6, and information packets are available.

Because they aren’t currently on the Altadena Town Council’s website, Altadenablog is hosting the packets for download on our own server.  Packets should also be available at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Drive. Completed packets should be delivered to the Altadena Community Center no later than 5 PM May 17.

Rescuer teams were scambled for about an hour this morning to find a missing 11 year old boy.

According to Dep. Marc Mrakich of the Altadena Sheriff Station, the boy was reported missing at about 7 AM this morning.  Mrakich said that the boy was reportedly upset about his recent grades.

There was some concern that he had wandered into nearby Hahamongna Watershed.

A Pasadena resident is being held on $345,000 bond following an investigation into an Altadena burglary and identity theft case.

Aqualina Jaime, 28, of Pasadena, was charged with 14 felony counts on Tuesday, April 9.   According to the district attorney’s office, sheriff’s detectives were alerted when an Altadena resident  reported several unauthorized high dollar credit card transactions on January  31, 2013.

A press release from the Altadena Sheriff’s station says that Jaime gained access to the victim’s credit card accounts and fraudulently obtained thousands of dollars in cash advances.

The National Park Service today released the final recommendations for the San Gabriel Watershed and Mountains Special Resource Study, which includes a recommendation for designation of a San Gabriel unit of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The purpose of the congressionally-authorized study was to determine whether all or part of the study area in the Los Angeles metropolitan region was eligible for inclusion within the National Park System and to make a recommendation to Congress on the most effective and efficient means of protecting nationally significant resources and providing for visitor enjoyment.

Altadena detectives are investigating reports of shots fired at a home on the 100 block of west Altadena Drive  near GlenroseTuesday night.

According to the Crescenta Valley watch commander, several reports of shots fired were called in to the Altadena sheriff station at about 8:30 Tuesday night.  No one was injured in the shooting, he said. 

Sheriffs are saying that the residents of the home involved “were uncooperative at providing information,”

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, with the help of two other agencies,  brought in an injured mountain biker from El Prieto Canyon Saturday afteroon, April 6.

According to AMRT’s website, the biker sustained an ankle injury and was located about a half mile up El Prieto Canyon.  AMRT, along with LA County Fire and National Forest Service Fire were called in to the rescue.

The Altadena Historical Society received a $500 gift from the Altadena Community Chest this week, according to AHS President Jane Brackman.

The Community Chest is a non-profit organization created by Russ Fega to collect voluntary donations, specifically from production companies that film in Altadena. Accumulated funds are dispersed to organizations and civic activities that directly benefit the citizens of Altadena.
