The American Cancer Society invites individuals who want to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease to join its Relay For Life, scheduled for Saturday, June 1, in Altadena at Farnsworth Park. Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds to fight cancer.

Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 9:15 PM Wednesday about shots fired near a house on the 100 block of West Altadena Drive.
According to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station, there are no clues as to the suspects in the shooting. Sachs said that “that particularly house had been victimized in the past.” No one was hurt, Sachs said.
Seven bullet casings were recovered from the scene,

Aveson Charter Schools will hold its sixth annual June Jubilee community celebration on Sunday, June 2, 11 AM-4 PM at Farnsworth Park. The school’s annual event offers families a fun Sunday at the park listening to music, enjoying games, contests, crafting and food.

A portion of the proceeds goes to the Greater LA Fisher House Foundation,

There will be a ceremony to honor the Civil War dead at Mountain View Cemetery today, starting at 2 PM. There will also be “living history” as actors portray some of the notable people buried in the cemetery.

The Altadena Town Council elections will be Saturday, June 8 (with “early voting” to take place on Tuesday, June 4), and activity is gearing up for that.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29, Neighbors Building a Better Altadena will be sponsoring a candidate’s forum at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Drive. All 16 candidates have been invited to answer a selection of questions, and NBBA says there will be time to take questions from the audience.

On Wednesday, at 6:30 PM, team captains are requested to be at Farnsworth Park lower ball field to pick out your tent location.
El Patron Mexican Restaurant, 2555 Lake Avenue, is also holding a fundraiser during the dinner hours Wednesday.

The race is now down to 14 as two town council candidates have withdrawn from the race.
According to election chair Eric Pierce, Evangelina Quintana (CT 4602) and Stephen Dale Zeider (4613) have dropped out of the race. No reason was given.
While two candidates are still running in 4602, this leaves Sylvia Vega as the sole candidate in CT 4613.

The Altadena-based Institute of Urban Ecology has announced a schedule of activities during the month of June, educating and supporting all the aspects of urban farming.

Altadena Detectives filed charges against a local registered sex offender who fled the state and was located in Cincinnati,

The upcoming Altadena Town Council elections have a home in cyberspace: they have a website, they’re on Facebook and they have a Twitter account (@AltadenaElect) . It’s just hard finding room in the real world.
The election committee is looking for a home for its 45 ft.

Fancy Food Truck Friday: It’s Danny’s Farm Day at Fancy Food Truck Friday tonight. Webster’s Community Pharmacy and Webster’s Fine Wines & Spirits will honor the event’s sponsor, Danny’s Farm. Both shops will donate 15 percent of their full day’s sales (not including prescriptions), and the food trucks will donate too, to Danny’s Farm, which provides programs and job opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

A resident on the 1300 block of Sunny Oaks Circle was startled this morning when she saw a bear and two cubs in her kitchen.
According to Sgt. Booker Hollis of Crescenta Valley Sheriffs Station, the owner of the house heard some noise in her kitchen and went downstairs to check on it.

The Altadena Library has extended the deadline for arts and crafts vendors to participate in the “Art on Millionaire’s Row” festival.
Anyone wishing to display their wres has until Friday, May 17, to submit an application.
“Art on Millionaire’s Row” will take place Saturday, June 8, from 10 AM-6 PM in the parking lot of the Altadena Main Library, 600 E.

The Altadena Farmers’ Market will be one year old May 15, and is going big with extended summer hours, entertainment, and picnics (if you don’t bring your own blanket, they’ll loan you one!)
The market will be open every Wednesday from 4-8 PM, an hour later, now through Sept. 30.
Market patrons are also encourage to picnic in (Loma Alta) park —

The Altadena Ale & Wine House, 2329 N. Fair Oaks Ave., will have a fundraiser for their soccer team next Saturday, May 18, with a wine tasting, starting at 3 PM.
The alehouse will be donating six different styles of wines to taste from France, Spain, and Italy. Cheese and baguettes will be served, as well as pizza. There will be giveaways,

Mountain View Cemetery will commemorate Memorial Day on May 27 by honoring Civil War veterans and with “living history” as presenters play the roles of Thaddeus Lowe, Native Americans, and the women who were left home as their men marched to war.
Historian Nick Smith said that the Sons of the Union Veterans and United Daughters of the Confederacy will be participating in decorating the Civil War graves in the cemetery.
