The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena will present ZAC Camp in June, which teaches 5 to 9 year olds lifesaving water safety skills.
The ZAC Camp program combines in-pool swimming lessons, safety classes with First Responders, and classroom curriculum. By week’s end campers are equipped with critical tools to ensure safe swimming, including: fundamental stroke training, emergency preparedness and response,

With PUSD classes ending June 6, it’s time to look for something to keep the kids occupied during the hot summer days. PUSD has sent along this list of local activities that will keep them occupied and who knows, they might learn something:
- Pasadena LEARNs offers five weeks of summer academics and enrichment activities from June 11-July 12. The program is free Monday – Thursday for all PUSD students who attend a school that has a LEARNs afterschool program.

The Altadena Main Library at 600 East Mariposa will close on Friday, June 7, at 2 PM to prepare for the Art on Millionaire’s Row salon reception, which will run from 6-9 PM.
The main library will be open during the arts and crafts fair from 10 AM-6 PM Saturday — parking will be on the street, as the fair will occupy the parking lot.
The Bob Lucas Branch Library will be unaffected by the weekend’s schedule.

Tonight, Tuesday, is early voting for the Altadena Town Council election. Voting will take place at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr., from 5-9 PM.
Regular voting will take place Saturday, June 8, from 9 AM-3 PM at different locations. Check out our election page for more details.
Also: election chair Eric Pierce said that volunteers are desparetely needed to staff polling places Saturday.

Athens Services, the waste-hauling contractor for Altadena, has announced the times of its annual free bulk trash pickup days.
Items should be left curbside by 6 AM on your haul day.

The Altadena Town & Country Club has set Tuesday, July 2, as the date for the annual fireworks display for the 2013 Independence Day holiday. The fireworks are set to go off at 9:30 PM at the country club, over the golf course.

Male Pug mix puppy found 6/4 on Mariposa near Lincoln. He hasn’t been fixed, but his nails were clipped when we found him. He’s a little skinny, but is very sweet and tame.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich presents the 21st annual Family Music Festival at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Arcadia on Sunday, June 23.

The Altadena Election’s Facebook page posted a message Wednesday afternoon signed Dale Parks, who was one of three candidates for the seat at CT 4611.
The message reads:
Due to the recent death of my father and ensuing family matters I feel I will not be able to focus on my candidacy for the Altadena Council. I have decided to withdraw from the race because at his time I will not be able to contribute the time and energy the position deserves.

The Altadena Library kicks off its 2013 summer reading program on Tuesday, June 11 with a “Doughnut Drop-In Kick-off” from 10-11 AM.
Kids and teens sign up for this year’s “Reading is Delicious” summer reading program, get a free doughnut, and get started.

6:00 AM – A male (46 years old) was detained by deputies in the 200 block of Taos Road after he was found trespassing at the location. Deputies determined that the individual had mental issues and transported him to Olive View Hospital for a mental evaluation and a 72-hour hold.

The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District confirmed that a dead bird identified by a District vector ecologist was infected with West Nile virus (WNv). The bird was collected in central Arcadia southeast of Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road. This is the first confirmation this year that WNv is being transmitted actively in the District.

Southern California Edison reports that 2,236 customers in Altadena are currently without power, and no estimate as to when they will be up. We're still trying to pinpoint the locations affected.

Neighbors Building a Better Altadena (NBBA) has announced that it will host a candidate forum for Altadena Town Council candidates at the Community Center on Wed., May 29.
According to NBBA, all 17 candidates have been invited, and will be asked to respond to questions provided ahead of time as well as take questions from the audience. Marge NIchols will moderate.

Twelve year Pasadena City College board member Geoffrey Baum has sent out a message that he will not be seeking re-eelection.
Baum represents Trustee Area 1, which includes La Cañada Flintridge, the San Rafael and Linda Vista neighborhoods of west Pasadena, and the western portions of Altadena. In 2006, he was appointed to a six year term on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors by Gov.

The Folly Bowl takes us back to the Renaissance with a free concert by The Briton Ensemble on Sunday, June 2.
The Ensemble, directed by James Briton Hendricks, sings 16th-19th century madrigals plus original compositions. They perform at the Renaissance Fair and Dickens Christmas Fair, and give two concerts a year in Altadena.
Admission is free, but bring something for the potluck thereafter.

The Pasadena Rotary Club honored five Pasadena Unified School District teachers in its 23rd annual Teachers of Excellence Program (TOE) on May 15.
This year’s honrees are:
Regina Major, Altadena Elementary School; Christine A. McLaughlin, Blair High School; Ella Farinas, Cleveland Elementary School; Richard Eric Mulfinger, Marshall Fundamental Secondary School; Dany Richey, Sierra Madre Elementary School.

The Arroyo Food Co-op membership approved new board members, a proposition to handle product issues, and met the new general manager of the Co-op’s store.
Mia Dunn, Joe Masiero, Laura Floom Manning, Tricia Keane, and Rachel Reed were elected or re-elected by 100% margins, according to a message from Dunn.
The membership also approved a procedure to address concerns that may be brought up by members about food the co-op provides.
