Forest is being raised from “High” to “Very High,” effective
this Sunday, July 12, 2009. The change comes as summer temperatures

Newest Altadenabog advertiser Curves, 2525 N. Lake Ave. #6, tells us they’ll be celebrating their first year anniversary with a special celebration this Mon., July 13, 3 -8 (or so) PM.
Owner Rose West says that the whole community is invited to join the celebration. There will be healthy snacks and drinks, free gifts, and a raffle, good time to be had by all.

Getting Altadena/Pasadena kids to Catalina camp is the focus of the first annual "Wine and Dine with Kids in Mind" fundraiser, to be held in Altadena on Thurs., July 23.
The fundraiser will benefit the YMCA of Glendale, to help send Pasadena/Altadena children to Campus by the Sea , a residential summer camp on Catalina Island.

Project: Altadena is an exciting group community art project: 100 Altadena photographers documenting anything they want during the month of July on disposable cameras, all to be part of an art show on Labor Day weekend. You don’t have to be a “photographer” to participate — you just have to live or work in Altadena.
Now halfway through the month, organizer Molly Tierney says there are 30 cameras left, and if you’ve been procrastinating, now’s a good time to jump in.

The Altadena town bird (i.e. the sheriff's chopper) was circling around north of Loma Alta tonight about 8:30 (one of our readers said over Monterosa and Cocopan). Sheriff's station said that five males — described as "brats" — were involved in beating up another person, who did not require hospitalization when it was all over. Four suspects are in custody,

The Altadena Sheriff’s Station is participating in National Night Out on Tues., Aug. 4, at Loma Alta Park Equestrian Center from 5-9 PM.
National Night Out is a crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The Night Out is designed heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood and law enforcement-community partnerships in Altadena, and send a strong message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized.

Along with the Altadena Town Council meeting Tuesday, the Pasadena Unified School District board will be looking at reauthorizing Aveson Charter School , specifically: adoption of a mitigated negative declaration and mitigation monitoring and reporting plan; approval of facilities use contract and lease agreement on the Noyes school site; and considering a future facilities plan.

Thought this was worthwhile, from the San Luis Obispo Tribune site — an obit for Dr. Daniel Blackburn Frost, who lived in Altadena as a child, came from pioneer stock, and had a distinguished medical career until he contracted Parkinson's disease. Short but sweet (we're a fan of obits).

Janette Williams on PSN's Altadena beat contributes a nice story about Kazi Pitelka, whose urban homestead is the site of this weekend's Golden Poppy Awards from Altadena Heritage. We like that she named her chickens after chicken dishes, such as Tetrazzini and McNuggets — we had a boss with four flightless geese that he named Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Chuck's Birthday.
