• “Dive into Great Books,” the 2010 summer reading program from the Altadena Library, kicks off with a donut drop-in registration starting at 10 AM on Fri., June 25, at the Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa, and at the Bob Lucas Branch Library, 2659 Lincoln Ave. 

Theatre Americana, the golden era’s community theater troupe, pays tribute to a groovy decade of peace and love when it presents “The 60’s Revisited,” a musical concert under the stars Sat., June 19 at Farnsworth Park Amphitheatre in Altadena. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes a special guest appearance from members of the 1960s folk/rock group, “We Five.”

This Saturday, June 5th is the Aveson Charter School June Jubilee! (A free event benefiting Aveson Charter School.) It is a wonderful fun-filled family day from 10am-4pm on the Aveson campus – 1919 N. Pinecrest Drive, Altadena. (Follow Allen Avenue North to the very end, and you’ll find us.)

Incumbents ruled in today's Altadena Town Council election, with one exception.

Newcomer Diane Marcussen knocked out incumbent Susan Goldman for the seat in Census Tract 4613 by a 53-33 vote.  All other incumbents in three contested census tracts won by comfortable margins.

In 4601, incumbent Gino Sund beat challenger Dwight Equitz,

We joined Dr. Mrs. Altadenablog in a rare adults-only evening, and thought we'd stick close to home and explore our town.  Our first stop was Bulgarini Gelato, where owner Leo Bulgarini was himself constructing a horseshoe-shaped bar as part of his establishment's refurbishment.

A small brush fire erupted late Sunday afternoon in the backyard of 2085 Minoru Drive, north of New York drive. A helicopter alerted the homeowner of the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown; two engine companies quickly put it out. Neighbors who haven’t been seen for years were on the street,

• ARTBreak at Farnsworth Park: The Altadena Arts Council holds a full day of music, art, workshops, awards, prizes and food, celebrating the creativity of our area’s children and youth. 9 AM – 7 PM.

Greywater — water that’s already been used to bathe, wash clothes, dishes and the like — can be a resource for keeping lawns and plants alive while keeping total water use down.  There are some upcoming workshops exploring how we can exploit our greywater resources:

The Fork in the Road is no longer in the road.

The international sensation — a giant plywood utensil at Pasadena and St. John Avenues in Pasadena, which sprang up mysteriously overnight last November — was taken down today — twice.

The Fork was erected in tribute to the 75th birthday of Bob Stane,

… the World Cup, that is, which allows the other nations of the world to go sports-crazy for awhile.

Over here in Altadena, Bulgarini Gelato, 749 E. Altadena Dr., will show all of the games live starting with South Africa vs. Mexico at 7 AM tomorrow (yes, they’re even planning to be open for the games that start at 4:30 AM!)  Coffee and pastries will be available — and a full schedule of games is available at Bulgarini’s website here.

The deputies are still sorting it out at 10:30 PM, but they are confident enough to say that someone "committed suicide" on Santa Rosa Ave.  There'll probably be more info in the morning.

But, I really don’t know how to use it effectively (buy first, learn second, probably not a path to fiscal reward, but, the philosophy has worked on occasion… the Apple IIe comes to mind)
