Hiker Stabbed in Eaton Canyon Improves, Faces Long Recovery; Suspect to be Arraigned Friday

The hiker who was stabbed in Eaton Canyon Wednesday night is “doing a lot better” but faces “a long road of recovery” a law enforcement official said Friday morning.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Altadena Station Deputy Dan Paige said the suspect, Kristopher Brown, 35, is no longer considered to be a transient, even though investigators are yet to confirm his residence.

“We have more evidence that our attacker is not homeless,” Paige said.

Brown was scheduled to be arraigned today in Pasadena Superior Court. He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $30,000 bail.

The victim and the attacker apparently “didn’t know each other,” Paige said.

The hiker was stabbed about 8 p.m. Wednesday after a man jumped out from behind bushes on the Henninger hiking trail behind homes near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive and attacked him, officials believe.

The victim turned and ran towards a nearby home but was pursued and stabbed again by the suspect, Altadena Station Sheriff’s deputies said.

The victim collapsed in a front yard in the vicinity of Altadena Drive and Roosevelt Avenue, authorities said.

Arriving deputies located the suspect in the immediate area. The suspect was arrested. The knife thought to be used in the attack was found, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman said.

Brown was transported for medical clearance for booking and has since been arrested and booked at Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station for assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds to the upper torso.
