Altadena Library District Job Announcement

LIBRARY PAGE

(Part-Time – 16-hours/week – No Benefits)

Under supervision, this part-time position is responsible for shelving new and returned books and other

library materials in all areas of the library, and performing related tasks, as required.

• Puts books in order on shelves and maintains order through consistent shelf-reading

• Assists staff with checking materials for damage and removing them from the shelves.

• Pulls books designated for discard, as directed by librarian

• Assists at Circulation Desk as required

• Ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions in English

• Ability to learn library procedures and Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme

• Ability to work evenings and weekends

• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and patrons

• Consistently apply procedures according to available guidelines

• Provide excellent customer service to the public

• Ability to push and pull book trucks weighing 50-75 lbs.

• Ability to bend and stretch to reach low and high shelves

• Must be able to move about inside the library at least 50% of the time

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, squat, twist, climb

• Desirable qualification: Ability to read, write and speak Spanish

This is a beginning level position. Candidates must have successfully completed the tenth grade and or

have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
