‘Toy Story’ Night in San Rafael Park Opens Fall Fundraisers for Pasadena’s San Rafael Elementary

The San Rafael Neighborhoods Association will screen the original “Toy Story” in Pasadena’s San Rafael Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, with suggested donations split between the association and San Rafael Elementary School’s Annual Fund.

The movie night is the first of five dates this fall tied to the Pasadena Unified School District campus at 1090 Nithsdale Road.

The school’s Annual Fund has set a goal of $225,000 this year to pay for programs for all 432 students. Recent district budget cuts have hit arts, music, physical education and classroom aides, the school’s Parent Teacher Association said in its appeal to families.

The film starts at sundown, which the neighborhoods association puts at about 6:45 p.m., and the group advises arriving early. Families can bring a picnic and blankets or chairs. All ages are welcome. The suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children, and it is optional. The association will take cash, Zelle and Venmo.

It is the association’s second annual movie night. The group said it picked the original after the success of “Toy Story 5″ in theaters this summer. “While we know the kids will love it, we expect it to bring back some memories for a few parents,” the association said in its announcement.

San Rafael Elementary will hold its first school tour of the year on Tuesday, Oct. 13, starting promptly at 8:30 a.m. Tours last about an hour, and no reservation is needed. Parent volunteers lead visitors through classrooms at several grade levels, the physical education program and the HeART and Sol Cultural Art Center. The tour highlights the school’s Spanish dual language immersion program and ends with questions for the principal. Visitors are asked to arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. and meet in front of the main building. Later tours are set for Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 19, Feb. 16 and March 23.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, HomeState at 1992 Lincoln Ave. in Pasadena will give the school 20% of any order placed with the code “QUESOFORACAUSE,” the residents’ association said. The code works all day online, in the restaurant’s app or in person.

The school’s annual Halloween parade is set for the morning of Friday, Oct. 30, on campus, the residents’ association said.

A group of San Rafael students and parents walks, jogs and runs each Thanksgiving morning at the Rose Bowl, the residents’ association said. This year’s outing is Thursday, Nov. 26, at 8:30 a.m. The ninth annual Rose Bowl Turkey Trot, held on the 5K recreational loop at the stadium, is scheduled for 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. that day.
