The insurance company’s annual program supports veterans with donated vehicles in more than 65 cities
In a show of support for military veterans ahead of Veterans Day, Progressive Insurance hosted its 13th annual Keys to Progress® vehicle giveaway on Nov. 6, distributing 100 vehicles to veterans, their families, and veteran-focused organizations across the country—including recipients in Pasadena.
The event, held in more than 65 cities across 47 states, aims to provide reliable transportation to help veterans access employment, medical care, and community services. Pasadena was among the California cities selected, alongside Sacramento and San Diego, according to a company statement.
Since its inception in 2013, the Keys to Progress® program has donated over 1,200 vehicles nationwide. “At Progressive, we believe mobility creates opportunity. Keys to Progress® isn’t just about donating cars, it’s about helping veterans and their families regain independence, stability and the ability to move forward with confidence,” said Tricia Griffith, president and CEO of Progressive. “Thirteen years in, the impact we’ve seen reminds us why this program matters so deeply.”
John Murphy, Progressive’s claims president, spotlighted the practical importance of transportation for veterans. “Reliable transportation can be the difference between a job opportunity gained or lost, a medical appointment kept or missed,” Murphy said. “We’re proud to help veterans and their families overcome these barriers and move toward brighter futures. Honoring their service by giving back in this way is one of the most meaningful things we do.”
Vehicles distributed this year were purchased by Progressive from Enterprise Mobility’s fleet. Enterprise, the flagship brand of Enterprise Mobility, is also providing six months of auto insurance coverage to each vehicle recipient, with policies written by Progressive. According to the company, Enterprise is known for serving customers needing a replacement vehicle while theirs is being serviced or repaired.
Additional support for the program came from Veracity Research Co. Investigations, a veteran-owned and operated organization that helps support the recipient selection process; Insurance Auto Auctions Inc., which provides a 12-month powertrain protection plan for each vehicle; The Original 1-800-Charity Cars, which facilitates vehicle donations and assists with titling and registration; and local charities that help identify veteran recipients in each region.
Veterans interested in future giveaways can apply through nonprofit organizations such as military charities or Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. Applications are reviewed each spring of each program year, according to Progressive. Details are available at KeysToProgress.com.
Progressive Insurance is the second-largest personal auto insurer in the United States and offers coverage for commercial vehicles, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles, and homes. The company was founded in 1937 and is headquartered in Mayfield Village, Ohio.
