Altadena Residents to Gather for Eaton Fire Community Information Day

The open-house style meeting will offer residents a chance to connect with County officials and emergency responders

Altadena residents are invited to attend the Eaton Fire Community Connection & Information Day at the Loma Alta Park Gymnasium on Monday night, where County officials and emergency responders will meet directly with the public nearly one year after the devastating blaze.

The open-house style meeting, scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m., will give residents a chance to ask questions and share concerns with representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management.

The County invitation describes the event as an opportunity to strengthen communication between agencies and the community in the wake of the January fire.

The Eaton Fire ignited Jan. 7 in Eaton Canyon and burned for 24 days, destroying between 9,366 and 9,414 structures and killing 19 people, according to official reports. The fire was fully contained Jan. 31 but left massive damage across Altadena.

Tonight’s meeting comes 342 days after the fire ignited and will take place just 23 days before its one-year anniversary. It follows a series of recovery milestones, including the reopening of Loma Alta Park on May 17 and the issuance of the first certificates of occupancy for rebuilt homes earlier this month. On Dec. 4, Ted Koerner’s home on East Loma Alta Drive became the first rebuilt primary residence in Altadena. On Dec. 5, John Dyson’s home on Grandeur Avenue marked the first rebuilt residence in West Altadena.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents Altadena on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, is leading recovery efforts and sponsored legislation creating the Altadena Wildfire Recovery Infrastructure Financing District. In support of the McChrystal Group after-action review, Barger said, “Survivors of the Eaton Fire deserve answers—and today’s report is an important step toward delivering them. This isn’t about pointing fingers. It’s about learning lessons, improving safety, and restoring public trust.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Lawsuits filed by Los Angeles County, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, federal prosecutors and a large number of Altadena residents allege Southern California Edison’s power infrastructure sparked the blaze.

Officials said tonight’s session will provide residents with updated information on recovery programs, emergency preparedness, and ongoing investigations.
