Altadena Library Adult Summer Reading Program Kicks Off Tomorrow

peter_rockwell_pau_1429511iCalling all adults! You are invited to “Read to the Rhythm” during the Altadena Library’s second annual Adult Summer Reading Program for a chance to win a Barnes & Noble NOOK!

The purpose of this program is to motivate community members to read. Countless studies have shown the many benefits of reading for pleasure. It reduces stress and improves your memory, focus, and concentration. Reading has even been shown to combat feelings of loneliness in adults.

What you need to know about the Adult Summer Reading Program: It is open to all adults aged 18 and over. Sign up at the Main or Bob Lucas Branch Library starting June 23, 2015.
Laemmle Theatres tickets will be raffled off each week!

Enter the Bookface/Sleeveface photo contest by July 31st for a chance to win a special prize. Submit your photo to sim@altadenalibrary.org (see photo on right for inspiration).
Read 6 books by July 31st to be eligible for the Barnes & Noble NOOK grand prize!

Monday, June 29 6:30pm Movie: Life Inside Out (Family)
The tale of a mother’s return to her musical roots, which allows her to connect with her troubled son. Join award-winning director Jill D’Agnenica, writer/actress Maggie Baird & producer Tessa Bell for Q&A after the show!
Saturday, July 11 2:00pm Movie: Searching for Sugarman(PG-13)
Two South Africans set out to discover what happened to their unlikely musical hero, the mysterious 1970s rock ‘n’ roller, Rodriguez.
Tuesday, July 14 7:00pm The “No Guilt” Book Club
Read to the Rhythm with the following selections: The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather and Our Reader’s Choice – choose any musical biography.
Monday, July 20 7:00pm “Life at Sea in the Age of Sail” (Family)
Historian-musician Simon Spalding will trace the history of seafaring, exploration, and maritime commerce in California, with special emphasis on Southern California.
Friday, July 24 7–8:30pm Bluesman Brother Yusef (Family)
An interactive program filled with singing, dancing, and learning about the blues.
Saturday, July 25 2:00pm Movie: Twenty Feet From Stardom(PG-13)
Backup singers bring harmony to the biggest bands in pop music, but we’ve had no idea who these singers are, until now. Don’t miss the Q&A with singer Claudia Lennear after the show!
Saturday, August 1 2:00pm Summer Reading Program Finale and Grand Prize Drawing
Everyone who completes their reading logs receives a goodie bag at this event. Bookface and Sleeveface contest winners will be unveiled. Must be present to be eligible to win the NOOK grand prize.
