Aveson Charter Schools Launch Local #GivingTuesday Campaign

Students and teachers of Aveson Charter Schools in Altadena will join more than 45,000 partners worldwide for #Giving Tuesday on November 29, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide.

Aveson calls their campaign #Giving TWOsday, which will be centered at the Aveson Global Leadership Academy, at 575 W. Altadena Drive, and Aveson School of Leaders at 1919 Pinecrest Avenue in Altadena.

“Our #GivingTWOsday campaign recognizes Aveson’s commitment to making a difference for everyone in our greater Altadena community,” said Kate Bean, Executive Director of Aveson Charter Schools. “Collaboration and social leadership are cornerstones of Aveson’s personalized mastery learning vision and it is a pleasure to give back to two outdoor spaces that enrich our students’ lives as well as the lives of all Altadena-area residents.”

During the event, Aveson will share a portion of the funds raised with two Altadena outdoor recreation spaces – Loma Alta Park and Eaton Canyon Natural Resource. Students will also volunteer and collect in-kind donations for several other nonprofit organizations.

The public can also help by giving their time, or giving a financial donation or in-kind donation to support local nonprofit organizations.

All interested individuals can come to Loma Alta Park at 600 West Palm Avenue in Altadena, or to the Altadena Public Library, and work with students during their volunteer activities. Financial donations can either be given to the Aveson School Leaders Jog-a-Thon or the Aveson Global Leadership Academy’s The Great Race. All donations on November 29 go further as Aveson shares funds with Loma Alta Park and Eaton Canyon.

Donations in kind can be given to several Aveson Charter Schools collection drives. Items may include dog treats, blankets and toys for the Pasadena Humane Society and other animal shelters; non-perishable food items and new unwrapped toys for the Altadena Sheriff’s Department Annual Food and Toy Drive; small personal hygiene care items for Union Station and other homeless shelters; and fleece or flannel material to make blankets for children at local hospitals.

Donations can be dropped off at the AGLA campus at 575 W. Altadena Drive in Altadena on November 29, between 8:40 and 11:00 a.m., or at lower Loma Alta Park, at 600 West Palm Avenue in Altadena, between 1:15 and 3:45 p.m.

Individuals can also give their voice and help to cheer Aveson Great Race participants at the lower Loma Alta Park. On Aveson’s pledge wall, friends and neighbors will post a note telling how they plan to give back to the greater Altadena community.
