Pasadena Families Invited to Explore PUSD Arts Programs at Wednesday Workshop

Pasadena Education Network event will cover visual and performing arts opportunities from elementary through high school

Pasadena families can learn about visual and performing arts opportunities available to Pasadena Unified School District students during an in-person workshop Wednesday evening at the district’s Education Center.

The Pasadena Education Network will present “Arts Opportunities in PUSD / Oportunidades artísticas en el PUSD” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Room 151, known as the Great Room, at 351 S. Hudson Ave. in Pasadena.

The workshop is intended to give families an overview of arts programs available at the elementary, middle and high school levels and explain how students can become involved. PEN said participants will also learn whom to contact for additional information about individual programs.

According to PUSD Communications, families attending the session will participate in a hands-on Creative Wellbeing activity in addition to learning about the district’s visual and performing arts offerings.

PUSD provides arts instruction across multiple grade levels and disciplines. The district says its arts education programs include visual and media arts, music, dance and theater.

At the elementary level, visual art is taught weekly by certificated visual arts specialists, while younger students also have access to theater and dance programming. Middle schools offer visual arts electives, and high schools provide a range of visual arts courses and programs.

PUSD also operates specialized arts programs, including Altadena Arts Magnet for elementary students and Eliot Arts Magnet for middle school students. High school students can pursue arts-related coursework and specialized pathways in areas including graphic design, film production, dance, drama and theater technology.

The district also participates in Creative Wellbeing, an arts-based initiative developed with Los Angeles County agencies and community arts organizations.

PEN’s event page says the workshop will be conducted in person and asks participants to register. Spanish translation will be available.
