Storytime, a noon ceremony and a historic exhibit fill the Saturday, November 7, program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Altadena Library District celebrates 100 years of providing library services to its community on Saturday, November 7, with a celebration at the Bob Lucas Memorial Library & Literacy Center.
The morning opens at 11 a.m. with a family storytime featuring special guest author Blair Imani in the children’s area. At noon, the library hosts a short ceremony with local historical organizations, elected officials, the Altadena Poets Laureate and other special guests, followed by a historic exhibit and food.
The celebration takes place at a branch that reopened in August 2025 after a 16-month renovation. The work included a 1,000-square-foot expansion that added about 50% more space, including a children’s area and a new literacy center with a classroom and tutoring rooms. The building also received a new roof, upgraded electrical and mechanical systems and an outdoor reading garden, and it is fully accessible. The $4.5 million investment was made possible by Altadena residents who passed Measure Z in 2020. The branch is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The district’s Main Library at 600 E. Mariposa St. has been closed for renovation since February 1, and its groundbreaking ceremony was held February 28. In the meantime, the district also operates the Altadena Library at Loma Alta Park, 3330 N. Lincoln Ave., in the park’s Social Hall, a unit of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation.
The celebration is open to all ages.
Altadena Library 100th Anniversary Celebration will run on Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bob Lucas Memorial Library & Literacy Center, 2659 Lincoln Ave., Altadena. For more information, call (626) 798-8338 or visit https://altadenalibrary.
