Dodgers Foundation Plans Two New Dreamfields at Altadena’s Farnsworth Park

The foundation is partnering with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation to develop the fields, which will be the 69th and 70th completed through its Dodgers Dreamfields program.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 5 and will include a shovel dedication and remarks from foundation leaders, county parks representatives and project sponsors.

“From the beginning, we knew our commitment to Altadena wouldn’t end with building Dodgers Dreamfields at Loma Alta Park,” said Nichol McKenzie-Whiteman, CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.

McKenzie-Whiteman said the organization has continued to support the community through its Dodgers Dreamteam youth program, food distributions and access to educational and health resources.

“The two new Dodgers Dreamfields at Charles S. Farnsworth Park build on that work, creating a safe, welcoming space where the community can gather and flourish as it continues moving forward,” she said.

The Eaton Fire caused significant damage to Altadena parks and led to the loss of facilities, rental spaces and program revenue. Farnsworth Park, a historic community landmark, was among the recreation sites most severely affected.

Loma Alta Park has reopened, while planning is underway for construction at Charles White Park. The Farnsworth Park project is intended to help close a funding gap in the long-term restoration of Altadena’s park system.

The two fields will support organized baseball and softball programs for children ages 5 to 12 and provide recreational access for youths and teenagers up to age 18.

Planned improvements include new irrigation systems, upgraded playing surfaces, fencing, shade structures and solar-powered hexagonal scoreboards modeled after those at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium.

The project will also include a STEM Trail connecting the park’s upper and lower fields. The trail will incorporate the foundation’s Science of Baseball curriculum and features tied to Farnsworth Park’s natural environment, creating what organizers described as an outdoor classroom.

The foundation and county have held listening sessions with residents and local organizations, including the Community Coalition for Altadena Recovery and Central Altadena Little League, to help shape the project.

“For generations, Farnsworth Park has been a place where families gather, children play, and community connections are strengthened,” said Norma E. García-González, director of the county Parks and Recreation Department. “These new Dodgers Dreamfields represent more than restored ballfields. They represent hope, healing, and renewed opportunities for Altadena youth and families as the community continues its recovery.”

The Dodgers Foundation finances and assists with the design and construction of its Dreamfields. After the Farnsworth Park fields are completed, the county will oversee maintenance, reservations, scheduling, permits, programming and community use.

Since 2003, the foundation has invested more than $21.3 million to refurbish 68 fields, providing more than 413,000 young people with access to baseball and softball facilities.

The Farnsworth Park project is also supported by several foundations, businesses and community organizations, including the LA84 Foundation, Fanatics Foundation, Rotary Club of Altadena, Servpro and musician Aloe Blacc.
